🪸 How do the biological clocks of corals and symbiotic algae work? Researchers from JCU are investigating how coral and symbiotic algae circadian rhythms function before, during, and after coral bleaching, and whether disruptions to these rhythms affect coral health, recovery, and spawning.

🌕 After the full moon, corals on the GBR release millions of gametes in a stunning “underwater snowstorm.” At SeaSim, we replicate natural cues like light, temp, & lunar cycles to study coral reproduction, resilience, & restoration. The full moon is tonight & we’re ready for #Spawnathon2025

🦈 Can the resilient epaulette shark keep up with climate change? Researchers are testing how warming & low oxygen impact metabolism, energy use & survival. By studying 24 sharks from Heron Island, we hope to understand whether natural fluctuations protect or intensify stress in future oceans.
