They reduce the risk, but they don’t completely eliminate it. Just like an umbrella reduces the risk of getting wet in a rainstorm, but doesn’t eliminate it completely. You’d still get even wetter if you didn’t have the umbrella.

He is now. The UK decided only to give two vaccines to his age group. Then we had to wait for him to hit 12 before he could get a private vaccine. Vaccines help a bit against infection but the effects wear off over time. Fortunately they also reduce the risk of long covid.

I suspect that viral load has a huge impact, and that it may be almost as much of an explanation for the higher proportion of female sufferers than male as the differences in our intrinsic biology.

looking after my kids when they were sick and I didn’t know they had Covid. I do know a very small number of people who have developed similar problems where the vaccine was the trigger, but those of us with a covid trigger hugely outnumber them, as you’d expect by the size of immune insult.

system, mast cell activation, regulatory T-cell depletion and neuroinflammation. Those pathological mechanisms are more likely to have been triggered by the virus than the vaccine because it is usually a far bigger immunological insult. Especially the three high viral load infections I had from

Four more infections, two made me much worse, one slightly worse, one slightly better (?!), and five vaccines so far, none of which had any impact on long covid symptoms. For what it’s worth, I suspect that my symptoms result from a combination of microclots, autoantibodies to my autonomic nervous

Oopsie for the 6th year in a row. Because why do serious prevention when you can overwhelm health care each year. "The figures show there were 950 hospital admissions for Covid in August and the total jumped to 4,939 in September, up by around 420 per cent." www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

Sorry love, your theory is not consistent with my case, or with known science. I’ve had long Covid since Feb 2020, long before any vaccines were available. Disinformation/misinformation actually makes it worse for the few sufferers who did actually get long covid like illness from the vaccine.

Wow! If only I’d realised it was George who gave me the long Covid all along! 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s quite remarkable how persistent the “it’s all in your head” brigade are. Imagine being so arrogant, that you can’t believe there could be pathological processes you don’t understand, so it Must be psychological.

Thank you for sharing this. And since the Covid pandemic a greater proportion of sufferers are, like me, also doctors. I’ve been fortunate to have suffered relatively little gaslighting, but I know plenty of other Dr-patients who have. The culture is slowly shifting, though. Very slowly!

Interesting. I’d not read that one, and I feel like they’re coming at it all sideways, if what they want is a diagnostic test. It’s useful additional information, though, for sure.

Yes, I’m not sure what to do with that one. It rather makes me wonder whether we’re all going to get Parkinson’s in a few years. Here’s hoping the disease modifying treatments come before too many of us start to find out!

I'd have more respect for racists if they just said "I am a racist." All this dancing around "they won't integrate" and "legitimate concerns" is mealy-mouthed bollocks. Just grow a spine. Have the courage of you fucking awful convictions, and stop assuming we're all as stupid as you are.

Ah, I rarely encounter that sort of situation! That’s interesting, though, and makes sense that it’s the internet thing. Is it an internal pressure, or do you sense people losing interest after a shorter time too?
110
Dr Louise Hyde @seasidegp.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Is it just the internet, though? Or is it also the fact that we’re all working two jobs to pay our housing costs and can’t afford a minute of extra childcare so actually having time to listen to another person feels like an unachievable luxury?

Oh yes, I’m in the UK and we have a problem with misunderstanding about nature, too. It’s not really a Christian thing here, but our cultures are linked. And we’re quite spoilt, too. People forget that death is natural!

As humans we have an intrinsic bias towards not acting, in case that action causes harm. Even when harm is more probable if we don’t act, we can’t compute, because the idea that we DID the action that then caused the (less probable) harm is so much harder to live with.

I’m just saying what I see. People go round in circles worrying about doing the right thing for their kids.
100
Dr Louise Hyde @seasidegp.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
It’s not a “lifesaving medical intervention”. It’s a preventative injection, to reduce the risk of bleeding. Some babies who have the injection may still have a brain bleed, because it’s a thing that can happen, & most babies who don’t have the injection won’t have a bleed, because it’s uncommon.

Dr Louise Hyde @seasidegp.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
No, they don’t. They lost their child already. The child they cared about so much that they were too scared to allow them to have an injection just in case it harmed them. The people who spread the disinformation are the ones who should be held responsible.

I feel like he’s played a wiser political hand than Corbyn, and he’s clearly not the same kind of slimy creature as Blair. I’m modestly optimistic that we may see some modest improvements. And the shift in the Overton window is enormously welcome.

He’s removed the child benefit cap and lifted 150,000 children out of poverty already. That tells me he cares and he’s got sensible priorities. He’s got a lot to do. Wrecking infrastructure is much easier and quicker than building it afresh.

It only feels “radically progressive” because we’ve spent 40 years normalising radically regressive ideas. This was broadly how Britain worked from 1945–79, when average GDP growth was 2.6% a year — compared with 1.9% in the post-Thatcher years. It works www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
