Modern Advertising: Ads on fridges, gas pumps, smart cars, smart TVs, video games, register receipts, every single phone app, search engine results, snuck in movies & TV shows, social media posts... unwanted ads feel inescapable and you're not imagining it.

In the S-5 episode "Have Yourself a Very Little Christmas", the "Girls" volunteer at a homeless shelter. At one point, there is a conversation about how many of the homeless don't want to be that way. Stagnant wages and high home costs make it impossible for many to own a home. This was Dec 1989.

One of those throw away things I wish was still around is the holiday special. Back when I was young, holiday shows aired only once per year. Once for Charlie Brown, Grinch and even the Wizard of Oz. It made the shows feel special, and the next day in school, everyone who saw them were in the club.

The Target "swag bag" feels like the perfect slap in the face from the corporate ghouls. When are people going to get that the stores only care about one thing: making money. They'll do whatever they can to get every penny from your pockets. Only way to beat them is to stop buying their crap!
