I keep saying "LLM is People." People can't code concurrent C++ either.

Me: Minimize the scope of all locks. Agent: No narrowing is possible <because reasons>. Me: <finds two instances to narrow, explains what a mutex is> Agent: My initial conclusion that there were no further opportunities to narrow was wrong. I re-reviewed the 17 cases, and I can narrow 8 more...

... I'm also considering how constrained small object optimization (SBO) selections can complicate things. Throwing moves and fixed first CMake make it a simpler task for modifications with broad roots in programming.

Agent having random thoughts on C++: Thought for 31s I'm thinking about the allocation source and how there’s no destructor for things when the lock destructor is outside the caller. It’s interesting how unique pointers in the heap can reorder pointers, and trivial destructors can be null-safe...

Agree. It can be a convincing tool for propagandists. And even if it isn't, it won't be believed by anyone susceptible to propaganda if it disagrees with their view, any more than an expert would be. The solution is civil discourse, but we have very little of it.

No profession will be immune, but I estimate we have 15-30 years before AIs match us. That's enough time to have a great career doing something they love. Civics, shaping our rapidly changing society, might be the most robust option.

I have to believe that this is learned because a significant number of people code this way. Can't satisfy a postcondition? Just return whatever value you happen to have around and keep going!

seanparent.bsky.social @seanparent.bsky.social · 18/06/2026
Every model I've used to code has an ingrained inclination that is hard to overcome with rules. It won't write a precondition or cover a nonsense case with an error, but instead weaken the postcondition to return some undetectable nonsense. i.e. `option.unwrap_or(some_value_of_the_right_type)`.

One of the goals of ChromeOS was to create a device that you could destroy, buy a new one, log in, and be right back where you were. I had to factory reset my wife's ChromeBook, and I'm in the dog house because some important data was lost. Why aren't complete backups still not the industry default?

Iran can strike at the Strait from anywhere within Iran, and possibly via proxies from outside. To secure the Strait, Iran's government must: - Collapse (possible, unlikely) - Surrender (very unlikely) - Negotiate (extremely unlikely) Or the US and Israel must occupy and hold significant territory.

Tell me why this wouldn't keep machines from landfills. @microsoft or @vmware creates a tool to repartition a Windows 10 machine to make a minimal boot partition that boots directly into a VM with the original Windows 10 install, running with a software TPM 2.0 module so the user can update to 11.
