Never saw the theatrical cut when it came out but I’m watching most of Scott’s filmography. Both versions were on sale a couple months back so I looked up which cut to watch & the consensus wasn’t even close. I had been putting it off because of the RT score & my own interest. Just blown away.

I have a period where non-romcoms and non-superhero films are a black hole. Lmao. Like the first two years of dating my now wife. It was a lot of early Marvel (Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, X-Men: The Last Stand, etc) and romcoms, like A Lot Like Love, Guess Who?, Tristan and Isolde, etc.

I knew the twist but had never seen it. I’m kindve surprised people didn’t get it right away. I believe trailers at the time featured the “I see dead people” line, but that could’ve came after release. I borderline love Cabin, Trap, & Signs. I mostly enjoy Unbreakable, Split & Old.

It was also just a very very different time. For all his faults, & there are a lot of them, Bush speaking positively about Islam & the Muslim community afterward did a lot for many. I was young & knew little of W. He was new to the presidency & he immediately spoke positively about both.

probably depends wildly based on a lot of things, especially age & location. While NYC is more diverse than rural IA, there is also no real threat of danger & no Muslim center to target, unlike NYC where hate crimes did occur. So it’s possibly less likely in IA that racists will have outbursts.

I come from a very white-very Christian small midwestern town. Immediately following 9/11, our teachers were quick to denounce all forms of islamaphobia & point out the actions did not represent the Muslim community. All of them, told us to embrace the Muslim community as they were hurting too.
