I preferred when they sent floppies, because you could erase them and use them for your own purposes.

If my goal was to design a product to absolutely MAXIMIZE the number of times it would get dropped… I'm not sure I could do better than the AirPods case.

Since switching to Apple Music as my primary service, the one thing that continues to drive me up the wall is the inability to completely stop it from ever playing a certain artist. Why is there no block feature?!

One of my least favorite skills I picked up in my decades working in tech is the ability to immediately see when a feature has been made worse for users in order to improve some metric that the company (or an individual PM) has decided is important.

As I've been returning to film photography, I am reflecting on how, in the late 90s I was desperate for a digital camera that could approach the quality of 35mm film. And now, I am looking for the combination of film stock and scanner that can get me close to the quality of current digital cameras…

One of the worst things about modern software is constantly being experimented on. I don't want features appearing and disappearing, buttons moving, and copy changing every day or two as various A/B tests run to see if they can squeeze a statistically significant 0.01% more engagement out of me.

Is it a conspiracy that all of the manufacturers of power stations have websites that are terrible in the same way, and make it nearly impossible to understand what all of the options are?

Ok, but I can sell it, buy a Rolex, and still go on vacation to Paris with money left over. I'll take it.

Wind is picking up in downtown Franklin, and has started blowing down branches and things from trees. #tspotter

Is this actually likely to be the end of the precipitation, currently just west of Dickson?
Screenshot of middle Tennessee weather radar, showing precipitation over Brentwood, Franklin, Spring Hill, Fairview, Centerville, and Dickson, but none to the west of that.

We had a brief blink in downtown Franklin about 30 minutes ago, but as of right now we have power and internet. Rain is coming down and there's definitely a lot of ice accumulation out there.

The weather influencers are in full clickbait mode... (I don't consider @nashseverewx.com a weather influencer; that's not who I am talking about.)

100%. I don't remember anyone ever saying "diskette." I will admit, though, that the first time I saw one, I thought it was "a hard drive." One of my friends got a Mac SE, the first Mac I had ever seen, and that was my introduction to 3.5" floppies. I'd heard of hard drives, so I just assumed...

Also, when I was looking for that setting to take a screenshot, I remembered I had this enabled. The fact that I still cant' even tell if it's enabled or not is an argument for leaving it as it is, I suppose.

Probably one of the best setting changes I ever made on my iPhone. It's shocking how nice it is to just never have the phone vibrate, buzz, or bump at all, no matter what. I flipped this switch a little over a month ago, and I wish I did it earlier.

In November, I left my tech job. Today's tech industry is unrecognizable compared to what it was when I started at Amazon in 1999. I'm looking forward to a 2026 filled with more human connection and creativity than algorithms and models.

Just had some MASSIVE wind, power blips, and very heavy rain through downtown Franklin. Surprised the warning doesn't extend down here. Anyway, it showed up suddenly and then was gone a couple of minutes later.

This is my first major change in over 20 years when it comes to actual core banking (not talking about investments and retirement). My old main account is from 1997, my old backup account from 2002, and then several minor ones I’ve accumulated since then. Hopefully no more changes for another 20 😅

And the things that do the micro-deposit to verify take DAYS to finish, even if it's only 30 seconds of actual work.

Paycheck direct deposits, insurance reimbursements, investment account links, stuff like Venmo... I do have anything that can be charged to a card charging to one, but credit cards have to be paid (and I have several, from different issuers), so I need to update the payments for each of those.

Personal. But part of the reason for the change is that I'm currently spread across about 6 different institutions (and I'm moving to two new ones). So a decent amount of the work is moving funds between them, which is tedious (especially when working with transfer limits, etc.) But also...

Finally got off my butt and decided to change/consolidate banks, which I've been meaning to do for years. I knew it would be a bit of a pain but I underestimated how much work it would be. My to-do list to get everything moved over is up to 40 items…

We got just a small sample of hail in downtown Franklin, and by my visual (out the window without going outside) estimation I'd say the largest pieces were no larger than nickel sized. I think we dodged the truly destructive stuff but will survey once the storm has fully passed. #tspotter
