We just freed a woman who spent almost 44 years in prison on a false confession. See State ex rel. Bailey v. Horsman, 700 SW3d 1 (Mo. App. 2024) for an excellent description of how it happened and what it took to overturn her conviction. Interrogators still use the same risky methods.

It’s not even a crime, it’s a civil infraction, like a parking ticket or an overdue library book. Crossing the border is not a crime unless you have previously been involuntarily deported and try to re-enter the U.S. And asylum seekers have an absolute right to enter the U.S. and apply for asylum.

Do not despair at the first waive of Trump’s E.O.s. When Dick the Butcher said “Let’s kill all the lawyers,” it was his recipe for tyranny. If you care about these issues and feel helpless, find a legal advocacy group you like and donate generously. Trump will get his ass handed to him in court.

Mark is right. Our radicals want everyone to have healthcare, housing, a livable wage, and a good education. Their radicals want to murder us. That won’t change, but the swing voters are accessible. You don’t do the right thing to get votes, you do the right thing because it’s the right thing.
