I am very pleased to share that our study "Circulating causal protein networks linked to future risk of myocardial infarction" has been published in Nature Communications! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Image shows a schematic (figure 1) which outlines the analytical pipeline, beginning (left) with the AGES prospective population-based cohort, which provided comprehensive phenotype and genotype information, proteomic profiles and cis-acting pQTL data. Subsequent steps included reconstructing 185 causal protein networks, each comprising 10 or more targets, via Mendelian randomization analysis, and evaluating associations between network regulators and eigenproteins with ACVD-related phenotypes, and finally (right), ranking CPN subnetworks by their connectivity to incident MI and related traits, revealing their hierarchical organization

Next time an institution tells you how seriously it takes research misconduct, ask them if it's *this* seriously. www.bmj.com/content/297/...
In 1916 the BMJ published an article about the work done by James Shearer, an American physician working in the British Army as a sergeant (because he had no British qualification). He had described a
"delineator" which was better than x rays for portraying gunshot wounds. This caused a sensation and a lot of interest — but on investigation the work was found to have been invented. The BMJ published a retraction, but Shearer was tried by court martial and sentenced to death by firing squad.

Celebrating grant award with a mountain run! MitoPhyto, a FRIPRO project, will combine modelling and microscopy to explore mitochondrial and mtDNA maintenance across non-bilaterian multicellular eukaryotes. Opportunities to come to Norway: please see next post

1. For the past thirty years I've had the best job in the world.
I've had the opportunity to follow my curiosity; explore the workings of nature and society; mentor students and junior colleagues in the same process; and teach generations of students about it all.

UK cover reveal for CRICK. There may be some tweaks, and a more focused quote, but this is what we have. Only say nice things. Out in November (!), pre-order from your local bookshop or somewhere nice.

Oslo airport has a "therapy dog" at my gate for people to spend time with while waiting for their flight! Definitely a welcome distraction from the usual misery of plane travel.

ChatGPT is transforming peer review — how can we use it responsibly?
At major computer-science publication venues, up to 17% of the peer reviews are now written by artificial intelligence. We need guidelines before things get out of hand.
