I have been playing Pathfinder for a while, and it has simply reminded Me how much I am unsuited to a frontline role. I make obvious to others constantly I am used to ruling in comfort. I find this pleasing how naturally I make that obvious.

I’ve been playing Starsector, and I love how much of a thriving modding scene there is. It’s one of the few games that through this gives Me at least some of the depth of agency, with it reacting to My decisions, I look for in a game like this. It’s very fun.

I think Tyranny and the Owlcat Pathfinder and WH40k games have been the only ones to at least come somewhat close, even though they aren’t perfect. Even they have issues of trying to basically hold you to an ‘alignment’ and making assumptions about My intentions that just simply aren’t true.

This is reminding Me of the fact that I have been sorely let down overall by a number of so called “open ended RPGs” at this point which say they’ll give you that agency, but then don’t actually follow through.

But also, I am reminded of how much I was disappointed in the story of the game. Pigeonholing you into being a merc who has a life timer, when what I want is to be given the agency to make My own character. It’s sad. But at least I can mostly ignore the story and just do the gameplay.

It’s kind of funny, I really like playing Rain World, but I always end up too fat to do anything properly within a few cycles. So I don’t actually end up making much progression. Both good and bad. The real solution is that I need a servant to help Me along.
