Steeple Jason Island. Home to the largest Black-browed Albatross colony in the world. I spent a week in March sampling albatrosses, penguins, giant petrels, shags, and more as part of our work to understand the dynamics of HPAI in the Falklands seabird community

Red footed boobies do not currently nest on mainland Ascension but this season we have seen significantly more around the Letterbox NR... maybe in the next few years... 🤞 #SuperSeabirdSunday

Easter weekend spent #SCUBA diving on Ascension Island. Loads of fry around, these pics were taken just as we were leaving the water...

One of my favourite things is getting others involved in our seabird research... here's a juvenile masked booby learning about drone surveys #education #seabirds
Showing a masked booby fledgling our drone controller. The bird seems mildly interested.

New pub: beautiful new ~35 myo skull of a flightless plotopterid bird (possibly Klallamornis) described from Washington state. Acid prepared! And big - 28 cm long! Same rock unit as some of the oldest known baleen whales on earth. Discovered by Jim Goedert. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Diagram showing the preparation of the new plotopterid skull: before, partway, and after acid preparation - the siltstone concretion is consistently smaller in each iteration. The beautiful skull of the plotopterid bird: the rostrum looks very much like a frigatebird, with a graceful sinuous outline and a reasonably sized hook at the end.

It's been a delight to monitor this brown noddy nest! When we checked it out yesterday, it had already fledged- they grow so quick! ☺️
