But this video doesn’t represent how it looks in the real hardware. The color palette is very different.

• The file selector lists only .SCR files • Reads raw .SCR files with a separate palette file (.PAL) or an embedded palette. PKS compressed images are still supported. • All scan ranges are now supported in modes 0 to 2: underscan, standard and overscan 🧵2/2

Dual Picture Viewer (dPV) is a .SCR image viewer for the Amstrad CPC. I've just released a loader/patcher that upgrades v0.5d to (unnoficial) v0.5e, with M4 interface (SDcard support) and many other enhancements. frs.badcoffee.info/CPC/index.html #CPC #Amstrad 🧵1/2

Today I released the MSX Pixel Art Collection Vol.6. This might be my last collection, since it took almost 4 years to collect enough files. The truth is that very few new images are being released for the MSX1/2/2+ nowadays. frs.badcoffee.info/MSXart.html #MSX, #8bit, #pixelart

AFAIK, the X68000 and Atari ST have many games that support MIDI music.

A simple 3bit offset register (per X/Y axis) is enough, in fact. That’s how it was done one the C64. But the Texas Instruments engineer that worked on the 2nd revision of the VDP (TMS9918A) was too stubborn to implement this, ultimately condemning the TI99A to lose the battle against the C64.

Today, I’d like to talk about the palette constraints that gave me the most trouble in *METALSLADER GLORY*. As I explained before, the Famicom’s background palette has 12 colors, but actually, there’s a 16×16-pixel grid, and only three colors can be used within that area. >>

I would suspect of bad DRAMs on the mainRAM, or a corrupted maskROM chip. Both are pretty common issues with this machine. 1) mainRAM: Do you have an external memory expansion? It might be an SD-Mapper with 512KB of RAM. Check if it boots. 2) maskROM: Try to replace its ROM by an EPROM.

It's not advisable to connect them directly to the MSX. A pinout adapter has to be used.

Sadly, both the frame rate and sound of the PlayStation versions are worse than the MSX originals.

SD-Snatcher @sdsnatcher.bsky.social · 04/05/2026
MG1 was indeed somewhat rough on the edges. And just 128KB of ROM was a very astringent limit. But MG2 is way more polished.

The sound emulation on the PlayStation remakes of MG1/MG2 leaves much to be desired, and the frame rate is worse than the originals. The best experience is to play the games on an MSX emulator if you can. Preferably, with the turbofix patches, on a turbo machine.

Awesome! I've just found about the your work. Do you also dump "CG" (aka Pixel Art) collection disks, or only games? There were tons of CG disks with gorgeous art published back in the day for all JPCs, but they're at risk of getting lost forever without preservation.

Yes, the MSX2 has full screen vertical hw scrolling. For the horizontal scroll, it has a 4bit screen offset, similar to the C64 3bit offset (but without the border masking). The MSX2+ improved it further with full screen horizontal scroll, with border masking.

Ok, got it about the arcade controls (I've never seen the real arcade). No problem, just I have to train a bit more. 🙂 But I really like to use the real SMS to play games. My main unit is a fat model with FM+turbo+RGBmod, but I also have nearly all other models with different VDPs, for dev testing.

It’s a (poor) port of the SMS game. Apparently they were more ambitious when the project began, but just rushed to finish it.

I struggle with the way the low/high gear was implemented. Maybe an alt control to use up/down to change between high/low gears, and the left button to break? BTW, support for the MD controller START button for pausing would also be very welcome. (note: not criticizing, it's just a suggestion)
