Jorge Amado is a Brazilian author I haven’t read, and I'll start with Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands. #Blackbooksky #Booksky

I have to choose one of these books to read by the end of the year. I'm leaning toward Darkology, but they're all interesting reads. #Blackbooksky #Booksky #Blacksky

Huey Long, Louisiana governor and senator during the Great Depression, inspired Robert Penn Warren's 1946 novel, All the King’s Men, later adapted into a 1949 film that won Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. There’s a recent biography on Long. #Booksky

I was putting together a reading list, but one book threw a wrench in the plan. I ordered Moving Toward Freedom, received it today, and started reading. It's a fascinating topic and a well-written account of Black Southerners forming a force when the war broke out. #Blackbooksky #Booksly #Blacksky

Everything Inside by Edwidge Danticat is the first of her works I’ve read. I thought it would be great to adapt it into a limited-series anthology. Dèy is Danticat's new book. The word dèy means mourning in Haitian Creole. Another text to add to my fall reading stack. #Blackbooksky #Booksky

The poet and playwright Derek Walcott composed the history plays The Haitian Trilogy. Walcott used verse to tell the story of Haiti’s four-hundred-year cycle of war, conquests, and rebellion. I imagine reading these plays alongside nonfiction works. #Blackbooksky #Booksky #Blacksky

I discussed Nella Larsen’s Passing and related works by Black and white authors, including three nonfiction titles. I should also mention Brit Bennett’s 2020 novel The Vanishing Half, which isn't on this list. #Blackbooksky #Booksky #Blacksky

It’s the last Sunday in August. I'm listening to jazz and deciding what books to read for fall. I’m definitely reading The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas because it’s been in my stack for a while. I believe these books are good for fall/winter. #Booksky #Blackbooksky

There have been a few times when I watched the film before reading the novel, and Ragtime was one of them. I enjoyed the novel more. Set before WWI, it's a good summer-to-fall read. #Booksky

Over the past month, I’ve shared nonfiction books on the 1898 Wilmington Coup. I want to highlight Charles W. Chesnutt’s 1901 novel *The Marrow of Tradition*, based on accounts from relatives who witnessed the coup. Using the novel as memory is quite fascinating. #Blackbook #Booksky #Blacksky

I reread W.E.B. Du Bois’ “Of the Training of Black Men. Du Bois wrote in the last paragraph, “I sit with Shakespeare, and he winces not. Across the color line I move arm in arm with Balzac and Dumas, where smiling men and welcoming women glide in gilded halls.” These lines. #Blackbooksky #Booksky

Percival Everett mentioned Samuel Butler's The Way of All Flesh over a year ago, and I added it to my reading list. I'm now including it in my fall reading. I tend to add books when authors mention or are influenced by other novels, a habit among readers. #Booksky

Paul Simon’s Graceland album is his most acclaimed work. It faced controversy: Artists United Against Apartheid criticized him for breaking the South African cultural boycott, and others accused him of cultural appropriation. The Days Miracle and Wonder discusses its making and impact. #Booksky

I haven’t read many Brazilian writers, and I was exploring beyond Clarice Lispector (she’s on my list). I came across the book The Dark Side of Skin by Jeferson Tenório and was drawn to two themes: fatherhood and loss. I plan to add the book to my fall reading list. #Blackbooksky #Booksky #Blacksky

I started reading Paule Marshall’s *Brown Girl, Brownstones* today and wondered why I didn't read it sooner. I like the art cover, but Marshall’s vivid description of a Brooklyn street on a “somnolent July afternoon” surpasses it. At this rate, I may finish by Saturday. #Blackbooksky #Booksky
