SD60 DFL unequivocally stands in solidarity with our Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Please read our statement here: drive.google.com/file/d/1FU1n...
This morning, Monday, October 12, 2026, federal agents raided the home of our Congresswoman, Ilhan Omar.

SD60 DFL unequivocally stands in solidarity with our Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and all our Somali neighbors.

Over the last year, Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked Somali Americans and the state of Minnesota. This raid on Rep. Omar’s home follows his attacks on Somali Americans last week and is an escalation of a decade-long campaign of attacks against Congresswoman Omar personally. Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric has contributed to death threats and violence in our state.

It is no coincidence that this raid comes three weeks before an election where Rep. Omar is on the ballot. As he has done many times before, Trump has weaponized the Justice Department to target his political opponents.

No president or administration should use government agencies to target political dissenters. To target a political enemy with violent force for no crime, with even a modicum of substantiation, is a blatant violation of the basic principles of democracy and American governance. It is also a direct attack against not just Rep. Omar, but every single citizen she represents in Congress, and the American people as a whole.

Impeachment is allowed for treason, bribery and/or “high crimes and misdemeanors.” These were described by Alexander Hamilton in Federalist Paper 65: “The subjects of [impeachment] are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust.” In addition, 18 U.S. Code § 241 states that if two or more people conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in the U.S. in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right protected by the Constitution or U.S. law, or because of having previously used those rights, they can be subject to up to 10 years in prison.

As such, we firmly believe that these actions constitute grounds for impeachment of multiple individuals. As such, we firmly believe that these actions constitute grounds for impeachment of multiple individuals.

SD60 DFL calls for the impeachment and conviction of, for high crimes and misdemeanors related to 18 USC § 241, President Donald Trump, Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement David Venturella, Acting Executive Associate Director of Homeland Security Investigations John A. Condon, and any other individuals involved in this targeted attack.

Rep. Omar is a tireless champion of our district, our state, and the values on which our country rests. SD60 DFL expresses our full support for Congresswoman Omar against ongoing political intimidation and abuse of power. We stand with Rep. Omar as she continues to advocate boldly for her constituents and defend constitutional rights.

“Attempts to criminalize, dehumanize, or terrorize our Somali community are unacceptable — and we stand firmly against it.” - Senate District 60 DFL
A social media statement from Minnesota Senate District 60 DFL that reads:

Minnesota Must Stand Against Fear and Intimidation

The Trump administration has deployed ICE officers across Minneapolis and St. Paul, specifically targeting our Somali community. There have been several credible reports of ICE abducting and harassing our neighbors in Minneapolis over the last several days.
We will not be silent as families are harassed in their homes, workplaces, and streets. This is an attack on our community and our values.
Somali Minnesotans are the backbone of this state’s fabric. Attempts to criminalize, dehumanize, or terrorize them are unacceptable — and we stand firmly against it.
If you’re at risk, know your rights and keep documentation with you. If you witness ICE activity, act as a peaceful legal observer and document what you see.
Our message is simple: we do not, and will not turn our backs on our neighbors. We will continue to protect one another.

In solidarity,
Senate District 60 DFL
