Totally different culture there. Everyone rides for transportation, regardless of age and gender. Here in the US it's those that can't drive or are environmentally aware. While there are plenty of rowdy kids on ebikes (almost always boys), I'm optimistic about kids riding more for transport.

I have traveled all over the US as a part of work and I can attest that 80% of the US infrastructure is not unique. A street corner in Arkansas isn't any different from one in California.

I find the fixation of watt savings to be comical, for many of the reason you mention. Unless you are at the tippy top of the sport, its not as vital as weight and comfort/efficiency.
