If you REALLY want to see one, what a lot of people do is leave a bowl of cat food outside their back door. For some reason they LOVE cat food. It's actually a common problem for people who live in the countryside that hedgehogs come in through the cat flap at night and eat all the cat food.

It depends very much on WHERE in the UK you live. If you live in a more urban city like me, your chances of seeing one are pretty slim. If you live in the countryside, your chances improve quite a bit. They spook easy, so they prefer quiet environments rather than somewhere with cars and people.
