Story Time. This photo from '05 holds a lot of memories. RIP Mr. Curry, you got me through. Story in the Alt Description. 💜 #rhps #trans #rockyhorror CW, heavy subject matter.

Selfie from Pre-transition. Goth got, white washed out. Oct '05 in my grandma's driveway. Couch crashing since June while unhoused by my parents, after my 3months in penitentiary for threatening sui+patricide, from finding out my dad was having me abducted to a conversion concentration camp, where 3 kids I knew unalived. I crashed 1 more week until my parents chased me out for being a "wicked influence" on her.

I'm there waiting for an elder at Delta Lambda Phi to take me to RHPS that evening. DLP inducted me during the single semester I could afford to attend Wake Tech.

Over the next few years of couch crashing, projects, squatting, and gold digging and sleeping at trade: I got trained and educated by Cherokee two-spirit friends, rioters from Stonewall '69, dominatrixes, ex-convicts, Crips, Rainbow Coalition, and all variety of queer and activist elders.

Every Friday night at midnight, I went with new friends to see RHPS, and we'd take turns acting, exploring different characters and queer expressions through community celebration of cinema and queer history.

For a homeless queer kid like me, RHPS was a beacon. It taught me that in the darkness, there's a light. Every week after the show we'd go out and get pancakes at IHOP, then make way to the local gay bar, Legends. I'd say hello to my bartender: an Aussie bloke named Possum, where I'd dance until the lights came back on at 4am. My worst days, I would watch the sunrise.

The story I told myself, which kept me alive, was "My life is an ADVENTURE." I will always choose the adventure I lived being homeless, over the trauma I went through leading up to becoming unhoused.

Thank you Mr. Curry for the visibility RHPS created, thank you for the adventure. It was a long journey to get here, and I quivered in antici....

...pation of the day I could become myself. You kept that light in the fireplace burning. I'm done dreaming it, I'm being it.

When I was 16 i told my best friend and neighbour, "I will be living as a woman by 40". The past 4 years on HRT have been the best of my life. 40 now, and girl lmty: it's good to be here. 🏳️‍⚧️ #transjoy

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” And then there's THIS hole.
