PENDULUM: New Poster For Mark Heyman's Debut Horror Feature
Mark Heyman's feature film directorial debut, Pendulum, is being released by Vertical in theaters nationwide on New Year's Day, January 1st, 2027. A new poster was released today. Check it out, down below.    Married couple Patrick and Abigail journey to a new-age retreat in New Mexico, drawn by the possibility of healing after a traumatic event. Patrick is willing to do anything to help his wife, but becomes distrustful of the retreat’s enigmatic leader even as Abigail falls under her spell. As paranoia builds, the couple must determine if the group’s spiritual practices offer genuine healing – or mask a terrifying truth that threatens to consume them both.... GODZILLA MINUS ZERO: Why is Godzilla so Shouty in New Poster? So Angry.
A new poster for Gozilla Minus Zero has arrived. The big guy stands posed for distruction, our minds filling in the sound associated with such a stance, a massive "Skreeonk".    Tickets are on sale now. IMAX early access screenings start on November 3rd. Regular screenings begin across Canada on November 6th.    War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life.   Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.   There is no third time. Everything ends here.   "There is no third time". Funny. I think those... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

Echoes: HANGING BY A WIRE, Pakistan's First Academy Award Documentary Entry, Was Shot Entirely on a Phone
On the morning of August 22, 2023, people in the Allai Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, looked up. No one could believe their eyes when they saw a cable car hanging hundreds of feet above, suspended by the last cable that was supporting it. People were terrified that, at any minute, the cable car, containing eight people, including six children on their way to school, would come smashing down. It was obvious that media outlets were recording the entire incident, which was being reported live on all television screens across Pakistan. It was the same impossible image that showed people wailing from inside, asking for help, desperate to do something that would save their lives. Something else happened on the ground, however. Someone reached for their phone,... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

THE ISLAND, TERROR TRAIN, and More Classic Horrors New to 4K from KL Studio Classics
KL Studio Classics, the main sub-label under the Kino Lorber home video brand, doesn't get the praise the "cooler" boutique labels garner, but it's every bit as deserving. Their 4K scans and remasters maintain a high level of quality and consistency these days, and their titles run the gamut from beloved classics and past hits to hidden gems and obscure examples of cinematic weirdness. We're heading into the spooky season, so I wanted to highlight some of their recent horror-centric offerings. Some of these have gotten the 4K treatment, often with HDR and Dolby Vision, while others are just new to home video, but all of them have something to offer fans. Ships and people continue to disappear while sailing through the Bermuda Triangle, and... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

I was very impressed, but even then I had no idea how gorgeous this thing would be. The day it arrived was a happy one indeed. The hardshell clam box features gorgeous art, and each of the three films in the set gets a unique slipcover and another unique sleeve. That is a lot of art. Vlissingen 2026 Review: ISABEL Shows Mid-Life And Hangovers
Ten years ago, filmmaker Gabe Klinger released his debut feature with Porto (reviewed here by Shelagh), and in that film he put some serious question marks at the popular cinematic trope of people being destined for each other after having one fantastic night together. In his second narrative feature Isabel, Klinger does the same thing with another such trope: people following their dreams and reinventing themselves. Let's just say Klinger likes to "keep it real". In Isabel we follow the titular main character, a wine expert in her early fifties who works at a Michelin-starred restaurant as the sommelier. A dream job for a connoisseur, but she feels frustrated and constricted because the restaurant's chef does not share her love of Brazilian natural wines and... The Asylum's STREET FIGHTERS, Out Today on Digital
The Asylum's Street Fighters is releasing today on digital! Just thought we would share that with you fans of the tongue-in-cheek low-fi mockbusters.    The world’s best martial artists fight in a world championship put on by a mysterious organization. As alliances forge and enemies emerge, they realize it’s not only the grand prize on the line, but their lives.   The trailer and some stills are below. We honestly do not recall ever seeing any of the original studio films so cannot say with any authority that there was a fight with a three-story tall demon. But you have to appreciate the big swing The Asylum took with this one.    Street Fighters was directed by Brian Nowak. It stars Yomade Adefeso, Diamond Marie... APPOFENIACS Review: Nostalgic 90s Neo-Noir Grit Meets Present-Day AI Terror
We had to check our calendar because for a moment, we thought we were back in our college dorm room with a Pulp Fiction poster up on the wall, or roaming the halls, whispering, “You’re so cool.”, hoping someone equally in the know would pick up on the reference to Tony Scott’s True Romance.   A wave of nostalgia overcame us when we started watching Chris Marrs Piliero’s Appofeniacs. Once the violent and intense prologue—a sign of things to come—was out of the way, we were struck by how familiar it all felt. The movie demanded a moment to pause before the story kicked in. The impression is that you are watching an ode, a love letter to the neo-noir explosion in the 90s, a... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

BEWARE BOIÚNA Review: This Giant Snake Movie Needs Way More Giant Snake
It doesn’t take much for me to completely buy into your giant snake movie. Number one, show me the snake; number two, make the snake exciting; and number three, make the movie fun. Somehow, Mike P. Nelson’s Beware Boiúna comes up short on all three counts, delivering a turgid, overly serious eco-fable about a monster boa with very little action, and even less payoff. Alli (Jessica Rothe) is an American do-gooder on a humanitarian medical trip deep into the Amazon. She’s just a trainee, but thankfully she has a team of medical professionals and a seasoned boat hands as they wind their way deep into the mysterious – and dangerous – jungle. When their boat breaks down leading to a tense showdown with a motley... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

DIGGER Review: Tom Cruise Acts His Ass Off In Iñárritu's Latest Big Budget Experiment
Too far is not far enough in Academy Award-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s bombastic satire, Digger. Iñárritu guides an enthusiastic cast of Hollywood’s A-list through what is sure to wind up as one of the year’s loudest films. Tom Cruise leading the shout-y pack as the obstreperous oil baron, Digger Rockwell, a man whose greed may have doomed the world, but also possibly the only man who can save it. The less said about the plot and structure of Digger, the better, even for those who will not like the film – and they will be legion – any joy that can be wrung from this boisterous, absurd experiment will be in the discovery. Suffice it to say that Digger Rockwell appears to be the most... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

Echoes: Pakistan Wants A Film Industry. Does It Have the Crew to Build One?
The recently launched Punjab Film City is like a light at the end of a dark tunnel for the Pakistani film industry, since enough has been discussed about the lack of resources and weak infrastructure in this area. This is, indeed, a healthy step towards enabling local filmmakers to tell their unique stories to the world, and letting the world know about Pakistani culture on its own terms. Pakistan is not devoid of talent. New films with strong stories are released every year, with many also making their way to international film festivals. Experimental filmmaking is something that the region has just begun to explore with its latest release of Zombeid (2026). New streaming projects are on the rise due to the rapidly growing OTT... Netherlands 2026: DOWNTOWN Opens Festival, Wins Dutch Film Critics' Award
There's something special going on with Michiel van Erp's new film. That the cast and crew received a standing ovation at the opening of the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) last Friday isn't all that unusual (festival opening, enthusiastic audience), but here something different seemed to be happening. First there's the film's subject: three men who, in the midst of one epidemic, corona, look back on another, entirely different but even deadlier epidemic of the 1980s, and on their lives and love within it. What's special about it, and it's easy to forget this after the largely positive reception, especially from the Amsterdam in-crowd and the media around it, lies particularly in the film's dramatic structure and execution, which is nearly flawless. Of course, the film... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]

Vlissingen 2026 Review: WHISPERS IN THE WOODS Stuns With Visual Poetry
During the opening titles of Vincent Munier's new documentary, you watch a forest, for minutes, with trees slowly emerging from the fog, while Hildur Guðnadóttir's Fólk Fær Andlit music plays. Seen on the big screen it's a jawdropper of a shot, and a meditative moment which is a feast for your senses. Many will follow. Vincent Munier is an award-winning nature photographer and filmmaker, and for this title he spent a winter in the French Vosges mountain forests. Not alone, mind you: he brought his father (also a renowned nature photographer) and his 13-year-old son with him. The end result is this film, Whispers in the Woods, which is about love of nature, of patience, of incredible dedication for getting the right shot. In a... Now Playing: NEVER AFTER DARK Frights, PRIMETIME Boldness, YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER Demands

Don't miss the opportunity to see it in a movie theater. I enjoyed Lance Oppenheimer's sizzling drama Primetime more than our critic, Kyle Logan. His review, also linked below, capably explains his reservations. Thirdly, I also enjoyed David Ayer's wilderness survival adventure Heart of the Beast, though to a much lesser degree than the films listed above; still, see Mel Valentin's review below to see why he thinks it's an... YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER YOUR MOTHER Review: Singularly Engaging, Singularly Provocative Religious-Themed Action-Thriller
The title of the Mahershala Ali-led, Bassam Tariq-directed Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, an action-thriller with more than just action or thrills on its mind, derives from a well-known “Hadith,” a saying attributed to the Prophet Muhammad in Islam.   Depending on the translation, the question differs slightly (e.g., “Whom should you honor foremost?”, “Who deserves your companionship and finest treatment?”), but the answer, repeated three times, remains the same: “Your mother.” "Your father" comes in fourth and last.    Ali’s character, Latif, a Muslim hitman (“he only kills the undeserving and the unrighteous”), finds himself at a literal, metaphorical crossroads when his wife dies suddenly, not through random or intentional violence as a genre enthusiast might expect, but through natural causes. Her loss... [Read the whole post on screenanarchy.com...]
