He died on my birthday and in the state I grew up in too, goodness. I’ll justify sharing this information by showing how cool this Japanese edition of STARCRASH is.

A big rest in peace to the wonderful Marjoe Gortner. Such an energetic actor in so many interesting films, several becoming instant faves for me, but you gotta see the documentary MARJOE, where he unravels the evangelist scam he was raised in. Talk about life well and fully lived!

Marjoe on DVD, with an Acapulco Gold Blu-ray peeking out, also starring Marjoe.

I’ve seen one American Horror Story season because of Stevie Nicks and one episode of Feud because John Waters played William Castle in it. The trick is to be very sparing with your Ryan Murphy dosing.

John Waters as a skinny legend version of William Castle and Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford. (Check out Sensational Sixties issue #15 to read my take on the era they’re portraying!)

Happy Star Trek Day/60th anniversary! I’ve had a great year with Star Trek, watching through TOS, Animated, TNG, Lower Decks, and now I’m DS9ing & Voyager…ing. To celebrate, I’m going to watch INSURRECTION (it’s just next in my post-TNG movie rewatching) and share a cerebral old tweet. LL&P🖖

Anya Taylor-Joy beautifully channeled Claire Danes’ look from the 1999 THE MOD SQUAD movie in the finale of LUCKY, and most of you will just have to take my word on that.

If you want maximum Tim Curry and you want it fast, don't forget to check out/revisit his Tales from the Crypt episode, "Death of Some Salesman." It's the first episode of season 5 (premiered on my birthday!), and it's very funny, grotesque, and he's unsurprisingly wonderful in it.

The many faces of Tim Curry, in and out of the makeup chair. This episode also features the wonderful Ed Begley Jr. and Yvonne DeCarlo: It really is a favorite.

I've never met anyone who didn't at least like (most completely loved) Dolly, and I hope I never do. We were so lucky to have an angel of that caliber walking and talking and singing among us for as long as we did, inspiring all the while. We've really lost some of the absolute best this year.

I’ve long had this behind the scenes pic from SOCIETY on my site’s welcome page because ofc it’s great, but it’s also unbridled, messy, unexpected, chaotic and full of pure glee. That’s what’s always inspired me about him: that fearless joy about creating and reveling in the truly weird.

Screaming Mad George sitting in the middle of what will end up in the “shunting” scene in Society, which had some of his most gruesomely hilarious creations, surrounded by cast and crew.

Nothing like cleaning and finding an old photo from that summer my cousin and I went on an especially chilling murder spree.

Me with smoke from a fire almost completely obscuring my face, and my cousin looking strangely shocked. We were about 10. (No actual killings took place, this has just always looked like a murder photo to me.)

Watched RADIOLAND MURDERS, didn't love, then discovered that, had STAR WARS not blown up, we'd have had a different version 20 years earlier. Imagine a pure Willard Huyck & Gloria Katz script at the same time they did MESSIAH OF EVIL: Maybe it'd still be a mess, but it'd be a more interesting one!

A spec poster for the version that never happened, with Huyck and Katz as the sole screenwriters and George Lucas directing. Source: https://www.lucasfilm.com/news/history-in-objects-radioland-murders-1974-advertisement/
