I received this book, "Beautiful Joe," for my 5th birthday (1966) & it's taken me nearly 60 years to start reading. I remember mom explaining what happened to Joe's ears & I guess it really put me off reading it until now. 😢 It was still on mom's bookshelf when she died & it's finally with me again.

Despite what has happened to him, Joe appears content, presumably because he knows he is now safe.
The name of the author is incorrectly listed as "Marshall Saunders" and should actually "Margaret Marshall Saunders".

The inscription reads: "To Scott on your 5th birthday from Johnny Kaup" in dark blue ink on a light blue background with a repeating white pattern of fluer-de-lis.
The aforementioned 5th birthday occurred in 1966.

Kind of feeling like this today, staring at 65... and every (true) friend and most of my relatives are gone. I've stopped taking in more dogs & cats because I'm afraid for them if they outlive me...

Because it's Friday the 13th, here's a picture of my black cat! ❤️🖤
