Hephaestus resisted rolling his eyes, not wanting to encounter any further delays, but acknowledging the seriousness of the evening. This wasn’t news that aged well. Action was required.
Before he could decide whether to complain to Athena or to get started on the facts of the night, she reminded him why she had been his first point of contact. “Your forge. It’s dark.” Four words. Worry rising in each one.
Hephaestus nodded gravely, not turning towards his pride and joy. “Yes. But one problem at a time. And we must tackle the most serious one first. But for that we need…” His solemn words were cut short as a noise from below them signified they were no longer alone. Rocks sliding underfoot, a person climbing.
