They are not related to us. ElectEd is an East of the River education group that is interested in “more high quality seats” and is generally aligned with charters, opening new schools etc… but they are also involved in many issues now and I believe is a c4 and endorses candidates.

We need a holistic education agenda that focuses on the whole-child, gives every student the kind of rich and experiential education they deserve, fixes special education and treats our educators with professional respect. Here’s the plan:

Every student deserves access to excellent neighborhood public schools, support in and out of the classroom, and real access to opportunity.
MY PLAN EXCELLENT SCHOOLS FOR ALLSUPPORT THE WHOLE CHILD: Expand afterschool & summer programming
Empower a single agency to address chronic absenteeism & expand home visiting
Limit screen time in early years, & develop tech guidance with teachers that is transparent with parents EXCELLENT & SAFE SCHOOLS IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD: Partner with educators, parents, and students to build excellent, fully resourced schools
Improve building maintenance, especially safety & accessibility
Fix special ed failures by investing in reliable transportation, school staffing & by being accountable to families
Protect schools from ICE

This speech was reminiscent of what these years have felt like. “Mayor Bowser presents the Muriel Bowser Fiesta DC Festival w/ special guest Muriel Bowser.” Always about her, never about community. Proud of her stadiums & helping her friends in business while slashing safety net. Good riddance.

Bowser got well earned boos (and later Free DC chants) from HU students throughout a commencement address almost entirely about herself. Deserved for a mayor whose policies have been nothing short of cruel to DC’s most vulnerable.Time for people first leadership we can be proud of. Time for Janeese!

I'm just not sure how we have a lot of Democrats confused about what is the most basic premise in liberal economics. That spending stimulates the economy, not austerity and that raising taxes on those doing better off can help those with the most need during hard times.

Scott Goldstein @scottgoldstein.bsky.social · 22/04/2026
Now, people claim that it's different locally because we have to balance budgets and can't deficit spend. But the whole point of raising revenue to fund needs is that that is how you balance the budget! It doesn't change philosophy, only slightly changes scale.

Biden of course came into office amidst COVID and terrible economic times. Did he propose raising taxes on the wealthy in bad economic times? Why, yes he did. In many ways. www.cnbc.com/2021/10/28/h...

Here’s how Biden's Build Back Better framework would tax the rich
President Joe Biden issued a framework for a $1.75 trillion social and climate spending plan on Thursday, over half of which would be financed by the wealthy.

Obama came in amidst terrible economic times. Did he propose raising taxes on the wealthy to fund social program (like health care) at that time? Why yes, he did. Obama’s proposed taxes target the wealthy
It’s probably never a bad time to be rich. But the good times for America’s wealthy could soon be a little less so. President Barack Obama wants to boost income taxes for the wealthy to pay for tax…

Bill Clinton took a little bit more of a conservative approach to taxes but still literally started his administration by significantly raising corporate taxes. And of course he significantly raised capital gains taxes. What happened next? Significant economic growth!

Johnson built much of what we think of as Democrat's greatest victories in the safety net- Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc... by...you guessed it- raising taxes on the wealthy to fund social programs. Which....stimulated the economy and produced growth! taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/taxes...

It’s unquestionably true much of it derives from not having spaces they should have. Where are the laser tag joints? kid friendly dining establishments EOTR? Teen dance clubs? Why do kids have to cross into MD or VA to go to a mall? We had mall fights in my day. We didn’t ban all kids from the mall!

Do parents have a role? Yeah, a large role, but in all this parent blaming discourse people also forget that sometimes, even often, the parents aren’t very grown up. They’re young themselves and many work multiple jobs day and night to get by. Parents need support AND kids need a village.

Scott Goldstein @scottgoldstein.bsky.social · 19/04/2026
People are going to say “yeah, but the behavior!” Look- teens act out. If it’s violent, they can be held accountable. But if you can’t see that behavior is also a REACTION to control, remember: “the child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.”

It’s shameful the way we are treating young people in DC. I went to HS football games every Friday; DC kids can't go without a chaperone. I went the mall to hang out; DC kids can't go to DCUSA without an adult. They can't enter Navy Yard wihout a military interview. It’s just wrong.

So…WHY can we not agree that a new tax (which we’ve now established wouldn’t affect any business staying in or leaving DC and would only tax large firms) should be the back up plan if savings, as we mostly agree, won’t make up the difference to cover this and other essential needs?
020
Scott Goldstein @scottgoldstein.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
- We agree some parts of DC gov waste money, are inefficient and we can save - We agree those savings, while important, won’t be enough to fully fund essential child care, health care needs - We agree it’s not the early childhood sector wasting money.

Scott Goldstein @scottgoldstein.bsky.social · 11/03/2026
Here’s my curiosity about this tax conversation… most seem to agree on these facts, but are still at odds: - We agree we need to fund early childhood educator pay and make child care affordable

By the way, this is what a “ramped up” campaign looks like in case anyone is taking notes. Canvasses all across the city, phone banks, dance party fundraiser, debates… a campaign built to respect and engage the voters it’s asking to serve.

Why are 13 % of all ICE agents in a city with such a small population? 1: target blue city where people & govt will resist 2: purposely foment mass civil unrest through brutality against population 3: Claim those resisting brutality are insurrections 4: Invoke Insurrection act 5: Cancel elections

Couldn’t agree more that serious times demand a serious leader. Having a mayor that doesn’t understand the gravity of throwing her own people under the bus to submit to a fascist regime - and then pretend she isn’t- is deeply alarming. Time for new leadership.
