Text:

I'm not a "leftist" or "socialist" so much as I'm just a "society is a construct and we've constructed ours into a pyramid scheme meant to exponentially help the small few at the top while crushing everyone else and it's dumb as hell and we don't have to keep doing it"

Reagan should obviously be in the “senile + criminal” region, and there’s a lied-us-into-the-Iraq-War argument that Dubya belongs in the “incompetent + criminal” region, but otherwise ok
A Venn diagram with three circles. Reagan is in the red circle, which labeled “senile.” Bush (presumably Dubya) is in the blue circle, which is labeled “incompetent.” Nixon is in the green circle, which is labeled “criminal.” Trump is in the center region where the three circles overlap.

xkcd.com/3230/
XKCD comic #3230, depicting a tombstone engraved with the name Joseph Paul Overton and the years 1960 – 2003. The years are crossed out, and 1965 – 2011 is written underneath. This second pair of years is also crossed out, and 1973 – 2018 is written underneath. This third pair of years is also crossed out, and 1982 – [blank] is written underneath.

Alt text joke on the original comic: “I think I accidentally installed an Overton window in my bedroom. A few months ago, the sun wasn’t in my face in the morning, but now it is.”

@stechlab-labels.bsky.social is a service that tags BlueSky accounts based on their activity, and tells me things like “this account posted >100 times yesterday” and such. Today, it tagged @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social with this:
Rep. Julia Reed’s account has been tagged “No break greater than 4 hrs yesterday” after she posted around the clock during the legislature’s marathon 25-hour session

As an aside, I’ve decided that “we should be giving away e-bikes” is my new hobby-horse issue, now that Trump has screwed up my previous hobby-horse issue (“we should stop minting pennies”)

Finally. Trump’s ongoing attack on the U.S. Postal Service meant that it took *two weeks* to deliver my ballot, but King County Elections now says they’ve received it. If you still haven’t voted yet, use a drop box.
Image from the ballot tracker page on the King County Elections website, showing that my ballot is at step 4, “ballot received.”

Now with alt text:
Cartoon of a woman on her front porch holding a bowl of candy and greeting three children trick-or-treaters. The children are dressed as a witch, a vampire, and a ghost. The ghost’s costume has a pointed hood. The woman is saying “How cute! A witch, a vampire, and a Trump supporter!”

After 17 years of voting in every King County election, this is the first time this has happened to me: My ballot, which I mailed on October 20, appears to have gotten lost.
Image from the ballot tracker page on the King County Elections website, showing that my ballot is at step 2, “ballot delivered.” It should be at step 6 (“ballot counted”) by now, given that I put it in the mail over a week ago.

A picture captioned “May I present you with a Venn diagram.” The first circle is labeled “people who don’t want to release the files,” and the second circle is labeled “people who are in the files.” There is 100% overlap between the two circles, so this “Venn diagram” is just a single circle with two labels.

Not sure whether this is a positive statement about Sound Transit’s bike parking or an extremely damning statement about daycare

Two-panel image of Buzz Lightyear and Woody from “Toy Story,” from the scene where Buzz and Woody are flying. In the first panel, the caption of Woody saying “Uuh, Buzz? We missed the truck” has been altered to instead say “Uuh, American Catholics? We lost the presidency.” In the second panel, the caption of Buzz saying “We’re not aiming for the truck” has been altered to instead say “We’re not aiming for the Presidency.”

A four-panel cartoon.

In the first panel, a man is giving an address to a large legislative body, and is saying “government should be smaller!”

In the second panel, the man is speaking before a smaller legislative body, saying “smaller!”

In the third panel, the man is at a podium at the head of a conference table, saying “smaller!”

In the fourth panel, the man is sitting on a throne, and the only other people present are palace guards. The man says “perfect.”

"You know that button people talk about in hypothetical situations? The one where you push it and you get a million dollars but a random stranger dies? Thompson was pushing that button all day long."
Image of a post on MetaFilter by sotonohito, which reads as follows:

I'm not going to celebrate, but I can see why people would.

I don't endorse political killing, it doesn't lead anywhere good.

But?

You know that button people talk about in hypothetical situations? The one where you push it and you get a million dollars but a random stranger dies?

Thompson was pushing that button all day long.

I won't cheer his death, but its hard to condemn the killer because to me it looks a lot like self defense. Thompson was a mass murderer, a man who in a just world would be charged with crimes against humanity. I can't see the killing of any health industry executive as anything but self defense.

People engage in vigilantism when the machinery of justice has failed them. The proper solution is to improve the system of justice. If anyone had any hope that a man like Thompson would ever be brought to justice I doubt anyone would have been so hurt by him they resorted to this.
