Today, we hiked 6 miles round trip to photograph Zebra Slot Canyon, just south of Escalante, Utah. We entered the most narrow part that required us to “chimney” up the walls because the bottom was too narrow to walk. We also had to “chimney” the tripod as well.

The drive out to Hunt’s Mesa, overlooking Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, was an amazing experience. The ride was through deep, soft sand and over hard slick rock. There were a couple of wonderful sights along the way. We also ran into some friends in one of the remotest places.

Two of the three cheetah brothers that made a zebra kill. They were walking to some shade to cool off while the 3rd brother got his fill. They took turns at the meat, to get as much as they could before the other carnivores moved it. Ndutu, Tanzania February 2025

The final sunset for the Oregon Coast photo workshop was bittersweet. It was the final workshop that I completed in lieu of Bryan Peterson. Many thanks to Lisa Phillips for helping me get started. And, of course, so many thanks to my wife, Pam for her support of my pursuit of this dream come true.

This past weekend, I completed my final photo workshop in lieu of Bryan Peterson, here in Oregon. I ran across this book by Bryan, published in 1984. I loved his photo of Heceta lighthouse in blue hour, which was shot on film or slides, and did my best to replicate it in the digital age.

During the last day of the New York City workshop, we got to play with panning in the Times Square area. Sadly, this is the last place I saw Bryan Peterson. Happily, the skills he taught to me are being passed on to others. Which one is your favorite? October 2025.

A quick edit of the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse and the Milky Way tonight. Unfortunately, the spotlights from the nearby gift shop blew out the foreground, so I composited in a shorter exposure. Not the best work, but I'm too tired to do any better. 🥱 Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia October 2025.

For the bird nerds out there, we saw these two blue cranes (AKA the Stanley crane or paradise crane). They were spotted on the edge of the Etosha pan in Etosha National Park in Namibia, back in May, 2025. Recently about a third of Etosha park grassland has burned this fall in a wildfire. May, 2025

The shot of a lifetime. During my workshop trip to Katmai National Park this year, we saw that this bear would swing his head from side to side after catching a fish. When I got this shot, I got chills down my photographic spine. I knew I’d caught a good image. Katmai National Park August 2025
