Been seeing a lot of ultra nationalist stuff on Japanese Threads. I hope it's not indicative of a significant amount of support for those ideas. I learned a new term: ネットウヨ meaning basically "far right keyboard warrior".

One of my favorite little word related factoids is about the Latin word "ecce" -- often translated "look!" While learning Latin I had always assumed it was an imperative form of a verb -- and you could probably even argue that that is how Romans saw it, just a defective verb that has only imperative

He was a very special gato, and I will always cherish the memory of him. So handsome. Exceptional cuddler. Appreciated the finer things (being in my viola case). Knew how to get to all the high places he wasn't supposed to, and usually didn't knock anything over. Thief of avocados.

This is super folk etymology levels right now, in that I'm going off of vibes right now, but I feel like 好吃 "hao chi" from Mandarin informed Japanese 美味しい . Those aren't ordinary readings of those characters (outside of "oishii") in Japanese that I know of. #folketymology #好吃 #美味しい

I had never seen "fart" in kanji before! Had to look up the composition and apparently the upper left enclosing radical is "a person squatting" (and the enclosed contents were originally phonetic)
