Look what's happened to my #orchid in contact with an Opuntia cactus. Its tiny hairs (glochids) that also cling to human skin & irritate it, have wounded the leaf, causing a defence response. The wound triggered a burst of rapid reactive oxygen species(superoxide & H₂O₂) from the epidermal cells.

To Think AI Will Develop Consciousness is Hubris
Many people realize that one could use a laboratory to reproduce all the compounds of an apple and put them in a jar. But fiber is not a compound, so already as a food it would not have the same glycemic index. Not to mention that even with the DNA, histones, and other compounds of the seeds present, pouring the jar's chemicals into soil and watering it will never give us an apple tree.

"Galaxy clusters are the most massive structures in the Universe &exert such a powerful gravitational pull that they warp the spacetime around them and act as cosmic lenses which can magnify, distort&bend the light behind them." When source, large mass & Earth are aligned, we see an Einstein ring.

What Fruits, Nuts and Vegetables Are the Most Nutritious?
(Source of data: Composition of Foods, USDA Handbook No.8) We often hear that to help prevent cancer, we should eat a minimum of six fruits and vegetables daily. Although most provide fibre and are a healthier source of calories than most fatty foods, not all fruits are equal from the point of view of fiber, vitamins and antioxidants and other compounds.

What is a Chemical Bond? The Question that Leads to Booby Traps
I looked at the glossary of an astronomy book, "Astronomy Today", which has gone through many editions. They defined a chemical bond as "a force holding atoms together in a molecule". That is technically incorrect for a variety of reasons. For starters, bonds can exist in compounds such as salts that do not form molecules. They can also exist between molecules, not necessarily between individual atoms.

O₂ is extraordinarily difficult to make &/or keep in the gas phase in interstellar clouds. But in 2011, Herschel's HIFI instrument provided the 1st clear detection of O₂ in interstellar space. There were 3 independent rotational transitions at 487, 774 and 1121 GHz in the Orion star-forming region.

"Newly formed stars are often very active, & in some cases they expel very narrow jets of rapidly moving ionised gas. Its streams then collide with the clouds of gas & dust surrounding new stars at speeds of 100's mi/s. These energetic collisions create Herbig–Haro objects such as HH111."
