Hard agree on HC-110 mid-ness. Also agree on consistency being the key to good results no matter which developer one chooses. Personally, though, I don’t mind if someone suggests a developer I haven’t tried, so long as they know what they’re talking about- many don’t, though, hence all HC-110 recs.

Thanks, Laurens! The Ortho renders blue skies relatively brighter, and the 510 Pyro holds onto highlight details like crazy, so if you like high key skies in your scenes, this combo is just about unbeatable.

Solid is a great descriptor. So many of the AF Nikons of this era felt a bit cheap and plasticky compared to cameras like the F3 or F4, but the F100 really doesn’t. Durable, good AF, multiple metering modes including matrix, all the shooting modes, AA batteries…what’s not to like?

Tom, am I right in thinking you shoot this emulsion fairly often? I’ve only shot it once and I loved everything about it EXCEPT this issue. 12 ruined shots I otherwise loved. Spent hours cloning black specks out of scans. I see you’re specifying 120 here. Does this not happen in 35mm?

If it’s balsam separation, there’s no fixing it, but you might be able to get a screamin deal on one with a heavily scratched front or rear element and put together a really nice lens for almost nothing.

I decided with one like that to get myself some tools and take it apart to try a self repair. The first time was unsuccessful (it was a fairly complicated AF lens), but I wasn’t out anything and I learned some things for the next time, which turned out much better.

This has happened to me a couple times and the seller just told me to keep it and gave me a full refund. I think they sometimes do this intentionally hoping some newb will just get it and live with it or not look real close.

I got turned away from a concert venue in Louisville with an FM2 and a 50mm pancake. Security believed me that I called first to confirm it was okay, understood that it shot film, was well aware it was less capable than my phone, and still made me go put it in the car because it was too big.

I can see where this will be helpful. I always label mine well, but it’s always just my own hand writing on the canisters so the different emulsions are hard to distinguish when I’m pulling them out of a bag in my freezer. What I’d really love though is a metallic sticky label to print DX labels on.

Yeah. Unfortunately not factual. Owner told me he didn’t clean the viewfinder because it was too difficult, blamed the front desk girl for not cleaning the film compartment, and assured me internal CLA was done. First time out the shutter stuck on multiple speeds. Plus the other issues.

If it had been an honest mistake that they made a real effort to make right, I wouldn’t share their name. That’s obviously not what happened. They clearly used totally untested replacement parts and did no CLA. VF and film compartment were dirtier than when I dropped it off.

The repair was also supposed to include a CLA that was clearly not done. After weeks of back and forth they agreed to a refund, which I was was supposed to have last Monday, but still don’t. Forster’s Camera Service in Salt Lake City. Spoke with the owner, who lied to my face several times.

I’ve been shopping for half-frame cameras. Thinking about an EE-2, which is reflective of how I use the Pen F anyway. I’ve only got one lens for it and tend to “set it and forget it” in true Ron Popeil style.

That sucks. Mine went in for frame spacing. Came back still having frame spacing issues, requires an extra half stroke on the advance lever to cock the shutter, eats film on rewind, a bent rewind crank, and a shutter that sticks in the cold, which it has never done before.

Gotta be the Fujica Half. If you aren’t going to have a vertical frame, what’s the point of shooting half frame? Cost savings? You won’t be saving when your fully electronic Konica Recorder dies on you and you have to replace it. The Fujica looks way nicer too.
