I think we as a filmgoing community have Baker way too much credit for what was actually depicted on screen. He’s said in numerous interviews that Bear is also a victim, that his original intent was to end with “fucked up Romeo & Juliet” and that he was going for the “relatable” trope of a crazy gf.
