3/3 The exhibition also seeks to convey the original dimensions of Rembrandt's 1656 painting The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Deijman, which has only survived in fragments. The work is now also part of the Amsterdam Museum's collection.
The presentation of the painting fragment is accompanied by an enlarged reproduction of a preparatory drawing on the wall behind it, allowing viewers to grasp the original dimensions of the artwork.

2/3 The unvarnished glimpses into the organization of poorhouses, correctional institutions, and orphanages are moving, thanks to numerous loans from Amsterdam Museum. Particularly striking are the depictions of Amsterdam’s gallows field and the the executed murderess Elsje Christiaens.

1/3 📢 This weekend is your last chance to see the magnificent exhibition "Rembrandts Amsterdam" at the #Städel #Frankfurt, which offers not so much a glimpse of the Leiden-born artist as an insight into the urban community of the 17th-century metropolis.

The walls and furniture are blue in colour, with Rembrandt's 1636 painting "The Blinding of Samson" on display in the background. Works from the painter's circle hang on the other walls.

No less fascinating are Harry Clarke's illustrations for the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, here an engraving for "The Little Mermaid" from 1916. He also became well known for his stained glass work. Clarke died of tuberculosis in 1931 at the age of just 41.
The illustration shows the Little Mermaid as a typical mermaid with a fishtail and naked upper body, as she encounters the Sea Witch – an androgynous figure, entwined with snakes and scowling maliciously. The illustration visualizes the sentence: “‘I know what you want,’ said the Sea Witch.”

With his illustrations for the works of E. A. Poe, the Irish artist Harry Clarke created visual counterparts to Poe’s literary visions of horror. Clarke was born in Dublin 136 years ago today. Happy Birthday! Among his most striking works is his depiction of Poe’s short story "The Premature Burial".
Harry Clarke’s illustration for Poe’s short story *The Premature Burial* depicts a man who has been buried alive and awakens in a coffin many meters underground. His face reflects the sheer terror of a doomed man. The illustration visualizes a primal fear of the story’s protagonist.

"Corps et âmes" at the Pinault Collection in Paris explores the human body from a variety of perspectives. The superbly curated exhibition presents works by Kara Walker, Kerry James Marshall and LaToya Ruby Frazier, among others. Highlight of the exhibition is a video installation by Arthur Jafa.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are early frontispiece designs by Félix Bracquemond and Félicien Rops for Charles Baudelaire’s "Les Fleurs du Mal". First published and censored in 1857, this masterpiece serves as the foundation for the "Evil Flowers" on display. 🖤🥀💀 #FleursDuMal #Baudelaire
