I choose to believe that the Vances had planned to name a daughter after the painter Alice Neel & got as close as they could with a boy name.
A screenshot of a Washington Post headline and dek that reads: JD and Usha Vance announce birth of fourth child

The birth of the baby, whom they named Alec Neel, marks the first time in more than 150 years that a sitting vice president has had a baby while in office.

Something about Demi Moore’s performance in “I Love Boosters” has been nagging at me, and I finally figured it out: It’s like she’s playing Tina Fey playing Cinda Canning in “Only Murders in the Building.”

This is the point in the NBA season where I begin to actively root against teams I actually like just bc they MIGHT stand in the way of “my” team’s playoff prospects. Not proud of it. Or the fact that I’m still awake right now.

I love this! We are hosting a New Year's Day gathering, the first of many in 2026, I hope. The pandemic + a falling-apart bathroom (renovated in early autumn of this year) both got us out of the habit.

Same — and it seems like that experience is universal. Even the AbEx authority who curated the exhibition had not heard of 2-3 of the artists before embarking on the book project that led to the show.

From my First Friday wanderings in Wichita last week: at Envision Arts Gallery, works by artists who are blind or visually impaired from the Los Angeles and Anaheim Braille Institutes. Angelica Fuentes, "Crazy Love;" Savannah Gayle, "Abstract is Hard;" Lynette Basford, "Circling Around."
Blue etterforms, gold crowns, and green hearts are superimposed on a pink and black background in Angelica Fuentes' "Crazy Love." White squiggles crowd a bright pink color field, dotted with dustings of gold and blue in Savannah Gayle's "Abstract is Hard." Lynette Basford's yarn sculpture Circling Around is composed of five circles made with stiffened off-white yarn that form an ethereal-looking cluster.

I was impressed by the ambition of this exhibition, which reminded me of a show of/inspired by paño art that I saw at the Museum of Mexican Art this spring — and also of the work of Justin Favela, whose cartonería will soon be on view at Wichita State’s Ulrich Museum
