I preach on the dangers of this in every class I take - not the inclusive approach now forced on these clubs, but on the desire of too many Georgetown students to sell their souls for management consulting gigs. www.washingtonian.com/2024/02/13/g...

I just read about the FAFSA delays in @insidehighered.bsky.social and @chronicle.com this AM. Thinking about this in the context of how (elite) universities are gatekeepers into the IR/foreign policy world and the need for real DEI at earlier ages, this is just bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

I wonder how many undergrad students actually understand how hard it is to be an adjunct. It seems that the, I don't want to call it a Ponzi scheme or a con, but the belief that tenured faculty still care about teaching, still persists... www.chronicle.com/article/the-...

That confederate monument in Arlington National Cemetery was the most offensive of anything I saw in the extensive review we did as commissioners of the Renaming Commission. Flat out celebration of slavery and armed rebellion against the U.S. government.

Entering grades for #GOVT1600 always makes me a bit sad. Sometimes I get perked up to see someone get a grade that's good and it makes me happy because I've seen their progress, but more often it feels like that's the only thing they'll take away from the class - a letter, not insights. #sotlsky

Just started Julian Gewirtz’s new book on China in the 80s and it reminds me that the CCP has always been a party focused on history and the writing thereof. Interesting to think about it through a constructivist lens.

The absolute best line in film. For somebody who works in white-collar policy in DC, every time somebody wrings their hands over a major failure and whinges about how hard they are working/worked… that’s a MOP, not a MOE… [see: Afghanistan]

A 🧵 on trust and the Israeli war in Gaza. Last night Netanyahu tweeted this, following his first Q&A sessio since the war started. It denies being warned about the Hamas attack by intel agencies and *blames them* for saying Hamas was deterred and seeking settlement. 1/ CivMilSky polisky
A tweet by Benjamin Netanyahu. The tweet reads: “against false claims: at no point was the PM warned that Hamas was planning a war. On the contrary, every security agency including the heads of Military Intelligence and Shin Bet argued Hamas was deterred and headed for settlement. This was the assessment submitted time and again to the PM and cabinet by all security and intelligence agencies up to the outbreak of the war.” The tweet was later deleted.
