I fear electoral dominance has become their main goal. They appear to listen to establishment voices within banking, finance and consultancy circles. This is not where an Indy Scotland setving ordinary people derives from, it's the power of the state to direct productive capacity and public good

We can't go into another campaign without serious concerted work on the currency offering to the Scottish people. This policy alone determines the scope and scale of every other decision to be made - using GBP is suicidal. The white paper isn't coherent and that makes it a massive unionist target

The SNP membership voted for our currency proposal in 2019. SNP leadership has adopted some wording but none of the substance in the currency section of their White paper. We keep trying and have had limited but not no success in having talks -we have a major report coming in Oct to add to the mix

The problems were building for some time so we must just do the best we can and hope it's reliable then. The efforts to fix issues seem to have brought even more issues.

It's really all of the above but rest assured we have been looking at your source and trying to examine what's there and what's not there and the methodology used. If this is useful even if not complete we would use it but at this stage we feel it won't radically change our base assumptions
100
Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
I think we just went through that loop. Some of the figures in the ONS data are also based on estimates and extrapolations of sample groups and some data are just not possible to separate or collect

Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
Our calculations are for the purpose of accruing sufficient GBP available in the Scot Econ to repay GBP loans and mortgages and provide FX reserves appropriate for a modern state. We believe this is already met. Our Oct paper will explore the fuller picture

Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
Money (cash) and wealth are only loosely connected. Most money is bank deposits and we know exactly what those are from the accounts of the banks. The only issue is what proportion of their customers and deposits are in Scotland. Shares, houses, etc are not money so not relevant.

Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
These are very useful data sources and confirm that the estimates we made based on percentage of whole-uk figures were good. Thanks
100
Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
We feel sufficently confident in the figures we have estimated. It would help enormously if the Scottish economy was a complete, distinct accounting unit but the data hasn't been collected so sadly it is incomplete as part of the U.K.
100
Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
Thanks for this but nothing here changes the research we have already carried out and we maintain the same estimates on which our proposals are based. Prof Laurentjoye has conducted extensive research and spoken to many relevant people in Scotland. His report is out soon

What are you suggesting is "proper" within the circumstances of the regionalised data being uncollected?
100
Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
The GB£ pay off the GB£ debts, they are finished, ended. Scottish commercial banks take them over. This is an outflow of Gb£ from the Scot Econ
100
Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
What would be your suggestions?
100
Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
I have told you quite plainly. GB£ reserves are accrued on the introduction of the Sc£. Currency swap lines are pre arranged should this process be more spread out than would be efficient for the transfer within a preferred window

Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Broad Money is Notes & Coins, Reserve Accounts, Bank Deposits plus an element of gilts (maturities up to 5 years). So alternatively you would have £8bn of notes and coins, £80 bn of RBS deposits + RBS £32 bn at the BoE, plus a proportion of BoS, Clydesdale and the other banks...

Scottish Currency Group @scg1.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
Just take UK M4 or M3 (Broad Money) and assume around 8% or a bit less is in Scotland. Broad Money was around £3 trillion last time we looked, hence £200 - 220 bn as an approximation of what is in Scotland. The UK does not produce regional stats
