This. I am better now about managing my energy that I can adjust to talk to people, but I hold a collective total of about three close friends as a result. It's either I spread myself too thin over too many people and not maintain deep friendships at all, or limit myself to those I trust to get it.

It's why I'm such a huge proponent of staying on websites without algorithms as much as possible. Learn to go out and curate your own timeline instead of what the site gives to you. Learn to think for yourself again instead of letting algorithms think for you.

There's so much rightful outrage about genAI yet no one blinks an eye at algorithms for how they mimic human behavior to push the most extreme versions of information out to us and in many ways, it feels just as if not far more insidious than genAI.

LRP - my exact views on socmed and why I just don't spend so much time on it anymore. While it has a wealth of benefits for marginalized people or those on the fringes of society as a place to come and congregate (I am included in that) the socmed of today is SIGNIFICANTLY damaging.

doomscrolling is literally sapping your energy and focus away from doing anything useful to help other people. you can burn yourself out without ever lifting a finger by exposing yourself to all the bad news in the world and who does that help? no one.

The bottom scene has the two sitting down, Fenneden with a slice of red relvet cake on a plate, Colin with a book resting on his thigh. The blonde holds a fork ahead of the face of the brunette who, intentionally, has cream cheese on his nose. Beneath them is the title of the story, 1951, followed by a subtitle reading 'Am I corrupting you? Are you corrupting me?' - as well as a gramophone to the very right.
Behind the gold framing is various side characters, each glaring in various ways.

A quick elevator pitch of the plot in case you're curious: "In the underwater city of Rapture, the tailor Fenneden Fergus picks out the amnesiac pianist Colin Faust as his next muse for an ongoing sick desire, under the guise of 'Romance.' Colin quickly falls under the spell, the proces of affection simultaniously triggering long-lost memories, revealing the musician's true brutal nature. Secretly a homicidal maniac, Fenneden is the one person eagerly delighted by what he uncovers in Colin, causing him to suddenly feel DIFFERENTLY towards this subject compared to his usual ones.
Slowly, they pull each other away from each of their initial hoped outcomes, love and death, and meet somewhere in the middle."

i thought i wouldnt do anything for mermay this year but randomly got super hyped after playing subnautica 2 a lot.... woopsie!!!!!!!! GAY FISH

SO.
tldr: mu was a boat mechanic who washed ashore on a strange island. he meets rasha, a feral mermaid, after he gets stuck in his fishing hook. rasha is then unable to hunt because of the injuries to his mouth, (hes pretty bad at hunting overall tho) and has to rely on mu feeding him - diving for boat scraps in exchange so mu can fix a boat and return home.
as they interact, they get close, learn about each other's lives. rasha used to be in human captivity, hence the injuries and him knowing english. and mu, like in canon, has a family that relies on him immensely - economically and emotionally.
eventually mu fixes up a boat called 'solid gold', and leaves the island behind with a lump in his throat.

even after its been years, he can't get their time together out of his head.

he collects various newspaper articles, sketches rasha's appearance to remember what to look for, catches fish and cooks them the way he remembers he likes. visits many, many locations of reported sightings...
so many days, weeks, months, YEARS... (3 years, even HÖH) no results!
but then... on the verge of giving up, the sloop suddenly starts rocking. what is this? is it a current? an animal? no... something grabs onto the barnacle-infested railing, and catapults itself onto the boat. maybe mu wasn't the only one looking.
water covers the bottom of the boat, papers go flyin everywhere. mu's hat bucket hat flew off to somewhere and a fish is flapping around just nearby, gee what a mess- but it doesn't matter.
it doesn't matter :,)
