For this year's month of July ( artfight month !!! ) I have two options 1. Either try and make myself a good enough buffer to be able to do artfight while still posting weekly Or 2. Post one page per 2 weeks for the month ( which I don't really want to be honest lol ) This is a toughie 😱

hypothetical tiktaalik-like animal of beoriden and a first draft of torpedo & toast :V first one is me speculating on the evolution of flight separate from the limbs #scarlethunt #limereptile #fanart #specevo #specbio

diagram of a blue dunkleosteus-like organism and an olive green tiktaalik-like organism, viewed from both a 1/4 angle and a frontview angle. both animals have extra spines on their backs, almost resembling three rows of back fins. the tiktaalik-like animal has extra spines on its upper arm and head. left of drawings read "Placoderm-like ancestor of Beoridian tetrapods"
below is a set of 3 head and arm bones, showcasing the dunk-like animal transitioning into a more terrestrial form. there is further differentiation of the head from the body, the fin slowly morphs into front leg bones, and a gill arch breaks off from the skull to become the shoulder blade. some spines stay on the skull while some merge into the shoulder blade
the bones are marked by color
red = skull
yellow = lower jaw
green = shoulder
blue = front limb
purple = derived bony plate spikes
to the right is a diagram of a more derived shoulder blade, facing down (like on a quadruped) with a medial angle (a proximal part of the shoulder closer to the spine) folding over the dorsal side of the bone. inside this modified angle are two sockets for spines to extend from. the spines, now segmented like fingers, outstretch patagia for flying or gliding
the shoulder blade is labeled by color
blue = glenoid cavity
gold = trapezius
hot pink = spinatus
lime = medial angle
cyan = subscapularis
dark magenta = derived spines/false fingers
grey = patagium
background is pale pink

older sketch of limereptile's torpedo and toast. torpedo is much more rodent-like, with much smaller paws and snout. his tail and ear spikes are more hidden in his fur
referenced animals include
southern viscacha: torso, ears
short tailed chinchilla: head, hind legs
long tailed chinchilla: ears, tail
toast is also more rodent influenced. his paws are flatter and his head and body are more square. his tail tapers more sharply and his spines arch upward rather than towards the tail's end
referenced animals include
plains viscacha: face
lowland paca: body, legs
sphenacodon ferox: tail
background is pale pink

rather extensive @scarlet-hunt.bsky.social biology study from last year #scarlethunt #specevo #specbio #fanart #limereptile

sketch of limereptile's character, goldie: a dark pink-and-white plushie-like character with long ears and pink tentacle arms. she has a long, inky tail and seafoam-green eyes. she wears a spiked collar and a teal-and-beige beanie. the beanie has a bowtie with a button that displays an anchor design. her left "fang" is golden, her teeth depicted as a cephalopod beak
goldie's body under her plush form is visible under the "stuffing" shows short tentacles around the mouth and a flat horn extending into the ear. her torso and tail are actually part of a pink, squidlike mantle
her anatomy is labeled as follows
doll body made of byssus and dried mucus foam
ink secreted from mouth and funneled down grooves on mantle: ink runs down from goldie's mouth into a white crest on her mantle
fused fins form tail wrapped in ink and mucus: the end of goldie's mantle has a long fin covered in thick ink
hard, modified tentacles in "feet": four tentacles going into leg socket, one having a longer suckers at the end
the right of the page reads "alternative leg anatomy" and shows goldie's mantle with a smaller cephalopod attached. its arms twist before the last suckers
labeled as follows
polyp-like "squid" holding w byssus
mantles are segmented + flexible: goldie's mantle is divided into 5 segments and those of her polyps' are divided into 3
simple eyes + tentacles twisted like leg muscles: the polyp has 6 simple eyes
the polyp is labeled like a leg as well. the mantle is the femur, the base tentacles are the tibia, the arms are the metatarsals, and the hardened suckers at the end are the phalanges
background is orange
