The free version that chimes in with search is awful. The paid version that comes with enterprise stuff is ok. Kind of like the difference between free chat gpt and using the thinking paid model.

Nobody can take on a BBC like he can, he's been known to handle them better than anyone else.

I mean sure, great. But they are hardly catching anyone on the 4th. It just ain't happening. Someone putting up outside the 4th? Sure, they'll try to catch it if they can, but they're gonna just do jack shit on the 4th, they don't have the resources.

In addition, the war has emboldened and strengthened the current regime, which is no friend to the Iranian people. This money essentially will prop up the autocratic leaders and the people are farther away from any sort of real democratic reform.

Most gerrymandering will crumble and backfire under numbers like these. As long as folks are motivated enough to vote, Congress with a spine will dramatically change the way the administration is handled. Will he be impeached and removed? Doubtful, but that's not necessary to reign in some things.

1999 very little music sharing, 2000 massive music sharing on college campuses.

You're right ... though it happened pretty fast. Colleges were at the forefront of the Internet and music piracy rage due to fast Internet access in dorms. By the middle of 2000 Napster had taken over my college campus and the Universisity had to figure out a solution to the lost bandwidth.

My theory is that in a lot of places, it's just plain old better organizers and inspired people to keep it going. It takes a lot of energy, both on a positive organization side, and on the negative outrage side to continue the protest movement in any one place.

im one of those white OCers you describe. For me, it's not really about revenge. It is about accountability. Perhaps they're the same thing in this case in terms of results, but I think they are fundamentally different.

If you don't think that type of violence doesn't exist in China on marginalized groups you need to take off your rose glasses. It doesn't mean that type is good here, but its disingenuous to think that China doesn't have much or more of the same.

ScandyAndy @scandyandy.bsky.social · 19/03/2026

We do not, even close, live in the same level of surveillance state as China. Not yet at least, not close. The level of state violence in general is a product of the current regime, which can change. China has no such possibility, which is the large difference.

I mean, I disagree, the reference is a response to a scene in the Big Short, which is certainly not criticizing equal opportunity housing laws, but is certainly criticizing banking and investment practices which led to the subprime crash.

100

ScandyAndy @scandyandy.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

I think the criticism is aimed at the banking changes that led to the subprime crisis, not at equal opportunity housing and anti-discrimination practices.

In addition, the price also increases because of the supply disruption, as people attempt to buy more right away and stockpile so they don't run out.

000

ScandyAndy @scandyandy.bsky.social · 08/03/2026

That's not how this works at all. The future supply of oil has been very disrupted by events. That will decrease future supply and price will increase to compensate. Market prices aren't only based on the cost of the item at the time, that's basic economics.

I mean, the price increases for normal non AI Enterprise gear has to be costing companies hundreds of billions of dollars this year. All because there's an Arms Race between cash full behemoths on AI hardware nobody is using yet.

New from me, at @vqr.bsky.social: a few years ago two people contacted me about a TEDx talk I once gave, “The Art of Haunting.” When I replied I’d never given a TEDx talk, things just got weirder. On AI, ghosts, what it means to tell a story, and what Italo Calvino saw coming 60 years ago. Enjoy!

What is the narrative exactly ? A white house staffer who has unfettered access to the president’s account with no safeguards was casually watching videos in which the obamas are portrayed as apes, and then accidentally hit post?
