My dissertation was about using Markov models to automatically generate musical transition between two pieces of precomposed music in video games. I don't use it in my day job. I'm also disappointed that generative systems are now equated with LLMs; they're so cool and have been around for ages!

King's Quest 6! Played it when I was around 5 years old back in the early 90s! It felt wondrous to me at the time!

At one point after constantly being pushed to use AI for things, I replied "I DO use AI! Actual Intelligence!" and they got very upset at that statement, which I found extremely weird.

NEW: I spoke with multiple video game developers and a U.S. employment lawyer to learn more about restrictive side clauses that often prevent employees at major companies from pursuing hobbyist work or personal projects. In an industry renowned for creativity, why are we stifling it?

Oh, I can relate. The amount of connection requests from random people assuming I'd be interested in L.L.M.s and A.I., N.F.T.s, or gambling is too high, quite frankly. And most of LinkedIn posts are nothing but grifters trying to outdo each other...

📢 Once more for the people in the back: - Most [more than 95%] of archives have not been digitized. - Most of humanity's knowledge and memory is *not* reachable by LLMs. - Believing that AI can provid you with comprehensive, definitive, "intelligent" results is folly.

Make artefacts, folks. The current internet, all that is digital, is not just at risk of being lost; it will have to be *actively sequestered and deleted* if any of what humans have achieved before us is going to successfully be transmitted to the future.

Adulthood is just cycling between "If I don't say yes to every opportunity, no new opportunities will ever be offered to me" and "Oh no, I have said yes to too many things" over and over until you die.

I've been supervising a MSc student as an industry supervisor for the last couple of months, and reacquainting myself with the academic space after having left it for 6 years has been interesting. The topic is one I care about (PCG in games) and I'm having a great time reading through a thesis draft

I actually attended several of these during my time as a PhD student at the Open University, UK! It was called the Cross-Cultural Cuisine Workshop, organised by @mcancellieri.bsky.social and was an excuse to have a potluck between friends. We wrote an abstract and short paper and presented our work!

Italian voice actor Carlo Bononi was the voice of all of the characters on Pingu. A trained clown by trade, he used a theater technique called grammelot, which consists of "speaking" in a mix of babbled gibberish noises. He improvised all the voices live and unscripted.

Don't forget; artists, writers, composers, anyone in game dev... you can also put a "no AI" clause in your work contracts! Protect yourself and the work you do while taking a stance.

I've turned 36 today! I don't normally ask for anything, but this year, I'd love it if you could share something small with me. Whether it's a small sketch, a poem, a short story, a photo, a small game, or music you made; as long as it's artistic and meaningul to you, I will appreciate it! <3

One of my favourite places in Malta, the Hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni, also has interesting acoustic properties! (It's also a prehistoric temple that's entirely underground, which is even more fascinating to me)

Why stop at asking LLMs to generate references for you? The logical response if you can't find an article reference generated by LLM in a library is to get the LLM to generate the article for you, as it is clearly all-wise and knows everything. Job done.
