Globally, the hottest August in observed history is just about to end. In Western Europe, the summer of 2026 (June, July, August) has been the warmest as well. Compared to this year, 1976 (the famous UK summer) and 2003 (the hottest EU summer so far) look like amateurs in terms of heat (1/2)

Great opening of the #EarthCARE workshop this morning in Oxford. Our colleagues from JAXA brought a Koinobori from Japan showing the Koi that climbed a massive waterfall and transformed into a white dragon - EarthCARE ☺️

Yesterday, the #ESA and #JAXA EarthCARE satellite passed directly over the eye of Super Typhoon #SINLAKU in the Northwestern Pacific. Last year, EarthCARE already flew over the eye of Hurricane Humberto, this time it is impressive how the Doppler and Lidar signals almost reach the ocean surface.

Great to sit together at one table with the JAXA EarthCARE MSI team. After developing the cloud products for the Multi-Spectral Imager (MSI) from two different sides, it's exciting to now look ahead to improvements, new ideas and science topics together.
