Enough with always responding to the bullies. Very good initiative of @eucopresident.consilium.europa.eu. Lets go out and build an alliance for multilateral action. Watchwords are defend and reform. Need to do both. Joint push with 🇧🇷 🇨🇦 🇰🇪 and surely more to come. ↘️

Watch this. My three conclusions: 1. The AI you and me use is very different from the frontier models. 2. Because of recursive self-improvement, we are very close to loss of control. 3. We need to control the frontier, not just pace it. The mother of all collective action problems…

Fair enough. We have to see where we land. And yes politics on both sides will determine the shape and content of the package. But a genuine upgrade is perfectly feasible. I would prioritise CRM, Arctic, Ukraine and defence maybe even more than single market access and free movement.

We are back to the Barnier stair case. Different options and trade offs. If we do throw in single market and free movement, as some report, than Canada closer than UK…

My sense too. Of course, right now the ‘associate membership’ label is just that. We have to determine its content. But that can be done by a Council decision. No need for treaty change and referenda, I feel.

EU and Canada are clearly willing to do a major upgrade of their partnership. For obvious reasons. Intriguing is the report here of free movement of people. If true, it could put Canada closer to EU than UK…. A suivre when Carney comes to Strasbourg for SOTEU and own speech.

Meanwhile in Ukraine
Katarina Mathernova • & @kmat... • 19h X Today, in broad daylight, my colleagues at the EU Delegation in Kyiv ran to the shelter upon hearing another of more that ten air alerts today. On the way they heard a loud explosion.
A russian jet-powered drone flew right over our building and exploded close to us. Smoke was everywhere. (I was in the meantime at a meeting which was taking place underground, in a shelter.)
These drones are incredibly fast. You have seconds to react. And that high-pitched whine of the drones cuts through you like a saw.
The russian drone hit a university building just some 300 metres from the • Delegation. 160 students were inside. They all survived because they were in the shelter.
The truth is simple: russia attacked a university building full of young students during daytime. And I find what the Kremlin has been doing for years absolutely outrageous: pushing the grotesque propaganda narrative that Ukraine kills its own people.
We know the pattern.
Attack Ukraine. Kill Ukrainians. Then accuse Ukraine of killing Ukrainians.
The cynicism is breathtaking. And we will fight it with the truth.
Today, a russian drone exploded 300 metres from our Delegation. It hit the National University of Food Technologies, with 160 students inside.
And yes, my colleagues were frightened. Of course they were.
But they got up. They went back to work.
We are still here. And we will keep calling things by their names. And we will keep fighting russian propaganda.

🇨🇳 Europe must stop postponing the China debate. As Beijing increasingly uses trade, technology and critical raw materials as tools of power, reducing strategic dependencies is no longer just an economic imperative: it's a security one, writes @sbeverts.bsky.social. shorturl.at/Ss1mL
Quote from EUISS Commentary written by Steven Everts, 'Europe must really confront China now: Delay is no longer an option' | "The EU has a wide range of instruments to tackle Chinese malpractice.
