His grave is located in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Gravestone for John Chapman, also known as Johnny Appleseed.

This is the same city that has a significant traffic reroute/direction effort every single morning at Hollywood and DLSD, right?

Seems like a savvy move for a career politician. You can just keep using the same shirts, no matter what you're running for.

Real mixed feelings here. There is no reason this requires a cop to deal with, but it absolutely needs to be dealt with.

@chicagobikesox.com I was looking to go to the game on 8/25, but wanted to see what the Divvy parking situation is at the park. I see there's a rack, but was worried that it likely fills up on game days. Do you have anyone who joins in on a Divvy?

My (only vaguely informed) understanding is that Michigan doesn't have statewide noise regulations, leaving sound level ordinances to individual municipalities. I'm guessing this municipality doesn't have an ordinance, or it's very vague.

I've done that route the whole opposite direction, and I like your route better. The trail gets better and better the further west you go.

Your video ends before the terrifying blender where bikes are supposed to stop, while all car lanes keep moving.

Hard to see the inch-ling bolts protruding out of that metal plate in the narrowest section of this lane. I wonder why I habitually run that red light so I can establish my position on the outside of the lane...

I find actual car enthusiasts tend to be supporters of driver responsibility. They know that driving is a skill and requires attention.

I can understand that view, but codes exist because someone did something stupid in the past. One person pouring things down a kitchenette sink can easily lead to significant issues with shared infrastructure.

Sam @sbergus.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
I don't think so, but I'm significantly less familiar with residential code.

Sam @sbergus.bsky.social · 13/07/2026
Yes, but also the sinks in wellness/nursing rooms. I've heard code officials use the logic "if you can imagine someone pouring their coffee in a drain, it needs a trap."

Chicago does require them to be installed for more facilities than typical. For example, almost every sink in an office building (other than restrooms) typically need a grease trap.

As is the waterfall where the north branch meets the channel.
Confluence of the north branch of the Chicago River and the north channel. The water level in the north branch is very high.

I find the middle-lane ramps to be what really sets this one apart. It feels like someone purposely tried to create the most demonic set of intersections possible.

I'm interested in seeing how this plays out long term, as Indiana has both dramatically slashed their taxes, while committing to pay for significant parts of two separate NFL stadiums.
Snip from an article: ""To collect millions of dollars here and send it across county lines for something like a sports stadium ... why would we do that?" said Biggs from District 3. "We have our own problems to deal with."

The stadium bill passed by Indiana lawmakers tasks Lake and Porter counties with adopting a 1% food and beverage tax before July of 2027, plus an innkeeper's tax in Lake County and a ticket tax in Hammond."

That's exactly how a sink works, when you use these tools.
Close up of imagine, showing several terrible versions or wrenches.

It looks busy in plan, but no one uses streets like that, you experience them from street level. That's why diverging diamonds work as well as they do.

New park sculpture dropped.
Picture of two sculptures on Lincoln Park. The sculpture in the foreground features a figure standing on the back of a horse. The figure is of mixed Mexican and native American heritage, and dressed in a contemporary outfit. In contrast, the sculpture in the background features a native American figure on horseback.

Intercom buttons are near the stairwells, and I've heard the page a few times over the years. "A" and "B" ends are meant to help conductors know where to go. I don't think there is any indication of the labeling.

Chicago also has Sunnyside. No bar on the pedestrian section, but it's delightful anyway.

I always enjoy drivers honking when the bridges are up. I can't think of a more pointless exercise, and unlike other obstructions, every driver can see what's going on. The road you intend to drive on is clearly visible to you, and not where you need it to be. What are you honking at?!?

This morning I told a driver to put down their phone, and to not turn through a red light clearly marked as such. He responded by aggressively chasing and shouting at me for the next five blocks, including through a school zone. Yes, it's the cyclists who need to change.

How many times have I wanted to do exactly this to a car with an insufferable driver/owner?

I had the same experience. Biggest change since then is that we're now much more accepting of paying for delivery, and layers upon layers of fees.

I'm on a ghost UP-N train. Showed up late to OTC, no sign of a crew. No conductor announcements, the doors just open and close, and the Voice of Metra announcements add to the apocalyptic vibe.

It was a good rainbow, and then it kept getting longer and more vivid, as did the sibling.

UP-N is so dedicated to hauling around useless metal, that this evenings train has the third car back placarded as a Quiet Car, fully acknowledging that the first car will never be used, not even during rush hour.

On yet another UP-N train, hauling empty cars. The car I'm in has at least one butt in every seat, so another car would be appreciated.
Photo of a door between train cars of a bilevel cars. Some sort of barricade can be seen through the window in the door, blocking off the next car.

It's refreshing when a politician's press release is written like something said by a normal person. It also helps when it's absolutely true, Pete Hegseth is a fucking liar. The only fault I find is he should be tried as a traitor, and not allowed to resign. www.duckworth.senate.gov/news/press-r...
