Right now we're looking a lazy loading tenant app groups that's going to be the foundation for next steps. While you're right the one thing I can guaretee were looking at is the impact of in client customization. The outcome is perhaps more how the stars align 😂

It is an area we're aware is causing pain. The current metadata system does not do heavy impact analysis so it can considers any metadata change critical. We are looking at seeing if we can segment changes ex. to a specific user, or role consuming the impacted metadata - or maybe even delayed reload

Yes that is a valid way of seeing it. We do emit additional metadata but not transformation af AL code. Parsing, symbols analysis etc. except emit still happens during this step. Transformation is on the server (JiT-ish) and ensures control of what executes on .net in the service.

Well properties is just one example. The task is to be explicit everywhere. While the app.json idea is nice I do not see us using it for this. It worked well for other things like implicit with.

Too early to tell but it would clearly remove some ambiguity and make code more readable for non-AL native coders. One clear opportunity could be to introduce properties on ex. codeunits.

First, it's just thoughts to unblock future changes to the language. But yes, you're right many will not be compliant. Like any breaking changes, we can manage it by ex. not accepting new versions that do not comply. A lot like obsoletion of AL objects.

We do have other ways like extensible enums and interfaces, however that requires significant refactoring. Events are maybe too easy so they get overused. I would still be interested in hearing about other ideas that would allow for late binding of integrations without going to source overide again.
