I'm very sorry I don't have the money to participate (both because it's a great cause and because OMG YOU HAVE EVA TAPES), but happy birthday!

The wild thing is that it's trivially easy to demonstrate the truth of this. Some of the first major gun-control laws in this country were written because the Black Panthers started carrying guns!

...you can uninstall Edge, wtf is this guy talking about? I mean, yeah, it's not as easy as going to Settings and clicking a button, but it can be done.

Fun fact that's at least *slightly* less well-known: Star Trek was saved by fujoshi. Middle-aged housewives who were Kirk/Spock shippers started the first fan communities, organized the write-in campaign that got the show a third season, and kept the fandom alive for DECADES.

The short version is that they all believe Roko's Basilisk means they *should* assume the AI will be hostile and kill anyone who doesn't help it come into existence, therefore they MUST help it come into existence even though they assume it will be evil.

Man, "imsim" at least works. The real crime is calling literally everything a "(blank)-em-up". Brawl-em-up, collect-em-up, explore-em-up, KILL ME AND END MY MISERY-EM-UP

Same. Language is mutable. Its purpose is to communicate meaning and anything that serves that goal is acceptable.

Every time I have to write a double "had" I cringe, because I know it ONLY makes sense in this shambling monster of a language.

I needed you to see this hilariously inappropriate timeline combo:

A post by Unhinged Eldritch Abomination (@rhymeswithk.bsky.social) of a Dark Souls meme showing the text "Beard Defeated", directly under a news post from Rolling Stone about Frank Beard of ZZ Top having died.

Hey, can you use some of that majestic Machiavellian manipulative mojo to get David Weber to hurry up with the next Safehold book? I'm worried he's gonna die before he finishes that series.
