Yesterday I mentioned my 2001 NASA publication HUMANS TO MARS: FIFTY YEARS OF MISSION PLANNING, 1950-2000. For them what are not familiar with it, here's a link to it on NTRS: ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/20... Fifty plans for crewed Mars missions over fifty years. I'd love to update and expand it.

Okay, now something different than my usual Lego rockets. I built a Lego 75375 Millennium Falcon. For some reason I have more spare parts than I expected, but I really enjoy it!

If the SLS were a Falcon 9, then Jared Isaacman's "fantastic" plan would look like this. I could agree with the LEO A3 mission (well, SpaceX aren't ready anyway), but the ‘Standard SLS’ is nothing more than sabotaging NASA’s own SHLV capability.

Have had a few days to see how people at KSC are feeling following the Artemis II rollback. I think one word really comes up a lot in this. “Annoyed” Most people consider the ICPS helium issue small and expect it to be a straightforward fix, but are frustrated that it didn’t show up until now.

NASA in the last 10 years: go back to Moon, gain experience and prepare for Mars. Everyone in the last 10 years: Booo! So stupid and useless! SpaceX will go directly to Mars! Musk 1 day ago: Wait, we're go to the Moon! Everyone since then: How smart is it! Excellent decision!

I’ve never liked Berger. It’s not exactly a secret I keep close. But calling him “Historically a Musk fanboy) is a huge understatement. He is a major reason SpaceX developed such a cult like following, and is also financially tied to their successes from his access journalism and book deal.

Isaacman’s full “Project Athena” was leaked over on Twitter. One thing that catches my eye immediately is how he fully assumes “space media” are his talking puppet. x.com/mcrs987/stat...

I'm still reading Gene Kranz's Failure Is Not an Option. Somehow, I had forgotten that all of the Gemini missions launched from LC-19. I had to relearn this today. Just think about the effort it took to put GT-6A on the pad within a week after GT-7 back in the '60s.

I thought I’d give the Mars Transfer Vehicle (MTV) from the Constellation era a try. Out of the various designs, I chose the most well-known one, the 'Copernicus' with 10m tank diameter. Here’s a rough, very early version.

14 days and probably 50–60+ hours of layout work later: the final instruction page of the Saturn V ML is done. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to do the test build before autumn - house renovations take priority now. But finally, there will be proper space for the LEGO!

In all seriousness, today I got to see Artemis II (Block I), a gigantic rocket that can actually get a spacecraft out to the Moon without exploding, rapidly disassembling, or any of that nonsense:

So whats up with Saturn V ML? I'm working on breaking the model down into building steps. This is the first step toward creating the instructions, and it also helps find issues before a test build. It's slow, tedious, soul-crushing work - and there's nothing visually exciting about.

The more I read Zack Goldmans posts on Twitter, the more I think that he blamed pogo just because there is well known precedent - despite SpaceX routinely creates bizarre Starship incidents that others avoid. There’s a reason rocket manuals list both longitudinal AND lateral oscillations.

Guys, remember: APCP can't explode. If an SRM could turn to be a 'dynamite stick', it would be useless for a solid rocket motor. Keep attention to the details. Liquid fuel otherwise CAN explode. The difference is like burning a firewood or igniting sawdust in the air (don't try it).

United Launch Alliance is currently gearing up for a slew of launches this summer, one of which will include the heaviest commercial payload ever launched coming in at over 25,700 kg, shattering the current 17,400kg record currently held by SpaceX.
A United Launch Alliance Vulcan Centaur rocket sits atop SLC-41 ahead of the Cert-2 launch in 2024. The rocket is in the VC2S configuration, with two solid rocket motors and the short payload fairing option. To the left of the rocket is its umbilical mast and behind that is the crew access tower used for Starliner launches.

Okay, I'm done for today. Bricklink Studio had a glitch with submodels and converted 2 hours of my work on Saturn V ML into nothing - the whole support frame and the deck under the umbilical tower. No part is not the best part if need it. Luckily, I have a backup in SVN.

Why this "8-day long" mission BS can't die? It was always a minimum mission duration. It was clearly set before on the flight: www.youtube.com/live/GT5UPOy... Same as Dragon Demo-2: it was a minimum 30 days long mission up to 120 days if needed. Eventually they stayed up 63 days.

Had an idea yesterday. While it's a rare need, I thought about making the Saturn V ML more transportable. My solution: making part of the platform top a LUT section that, after removing the side panels, could detach with a few Technic pins—taking most connections with it. Like this.:
