Robert E. Roberts - Maddog Tattoo - 1990s. Slide building is going well on the Indelible Identities lecture on Queer Tattoo History.

Screen shot of a lecture slide; a bearded man with a t-shirt that says MADDOG TATTOO is being interviewed by a possibly drunk woman in a leather hat

A letter from Robert Roberts to Shawn Porter, 1997.
The letter talks about their meeting at a tattoo convention, and a desire to talk via phone.

Added on to a piece my friend Nick Bergin from Godspeed Tattoo. The tattoo Nick did (on the right) is based on a painting he once gifted me. Such a thoughtful full circle moment from the client to bring me in on it 😊🕳️💕

Our friend @savagesal.bsky.social was kind enough to reimagine a Cliff Raven design to add a little razzle dazzle to my latest book - a visual companion to the lecture I’ll be giving on #queertattoo history in less than a month!

Cover of a book titled INDELIBLE IDENTITIES A QUEER HISTORY OF TATTOOING 01: John Dagion by archivist Shawn Porter

The cover feature a traditional tattoo design of a swallow and heart with a banner reading QUEER, designed by Savage Sal.

Repaint of an obscure Mike ‘Rollo’ Malone stencil, originally purchased from Kandi Everette. Two legendary tattooers who carried on Sailor Jerry’s legacy after his passing. #daddysruin #rollo #mikemalone #tattooflash

A painting I made based on a drawing by Dom Orejudos (aka Etienne). I first saw it in “The Art of Etienne,” then randomly came across a write-up about it in another book… which I’ve totally forgotten the name of. Oops! Long live Dom! #etienne #domorejudos #savagesal

It’s impossible to overstate the impact that Samuel Steward had on modern tattooing. Tattooing professionally under the name Phil Sparrow, he was a primary mentor to Ed Hardy & Cliff Raven. The intersection of tattoo culture and the queer community is inseparable. sacreddebris.com #queertattoo
