i had tooooo many thoughts for a bsky post, thank you for the excellent question!! Short answer: yes, he'd oppose it. Long answer: he cares about people, but he's a wizard with wizard disease and some stunning gaps in his self-awareness (love that for him, wouldn't have him any other way)

And he seems to feel passionate about all that! He really does care about people. However...

IMO he's more of a big picture guy, and he's not all that self-aware. I'd peg him as more interested in joining smth like the Inquisition (grand cause which speaks to his faith + morals & is centered around a fascinating matryoshka doll of magical mysteries) than like, getting in w the Shadow Dragons (who speak to his morals but the work requires enduring perpetual ugliness/risk/discomfort & there's no grand magical mystery).

If there's one thing Gale is very adept at, it's finding ways to justify his own self-interest for the greater good. He's probably used some of that corruption to gain magical items of interest, tbh! And I don't know that I would trust his solutions for fixing corruption because the second thing he's good at is finding ways to propose his own dramatic self-immolation for the greater good. That's another grand and meaningful action, but maybe not one that helps truly dismantle a corrupt system, y'know?

More even than Dorian does at the start – Dorian's pretty self-absorbed when you recruit him imo, and his personal quest is also focused on how he, personally, was affected by Tevinter's systems of cruelty (just recruited him again in my replay). He's got a lot of growing to do at the point he joins the Inquisition. He wants change, but I think his reasons are a little questionable, just like Gale's would be if he joined.

Gale's self-absorption would look different; he's deeply curious about people/the world around him, and he already notices and cares when ppl affected by injustice. However, his solutions tend to be self-serving, whether he realizes it or not, even if he also genuinely wants to help! He cares...but he's a wizard with wizard disease, regardless of universe. Gale of Minrathous would love to crack open the vault of heaven and check out the throne of the Maker just for the thrill of doing it, and he'd justify it with all his good intentions.

So…yes! He'd oppose the corruption and its attendant cruelties. Effectively? Ehhh. But he opposes it.
