New preprint! a bunch of improvements and cool techniques for better zero-knowledge proofs of image/video editing. Will write more about it soon. Read here: eprint.iacr.org/2026/1598

random cryptography pet peeve: not everything needs syntax and definitions! multiple papers in the "image/video editing with zk-SNARKs" literature make cryptographic definitions for what it means to edit a video. the proof is then basically "it reduces to the security of the underlying SNARK".

it's also a fairly forced acronym in the crypto case 😁

this week is my 1 year anniversary of starting grad school. I have been reading 1-2 papers (or equivalent amount of a textbook) per week most of the time. here is the list of papers i have read since starting. I am pretty proud of it! here is a list of papers that were highlights:

4 days to IEEE S&P deadline. stuck in the phase of paper writing where people keep asking me to slightly change the intro and framing paragraphs of various sections.

new salvo in the war for the 16 GB of RAM on my laptop: my VSCode installed an AI spellcheck thing when I blindly clicked on "install suggested extensions" for something. Each window I had open spawned a process just called `java` that was using ~500 MB of RAM!! 1.5 GB across all my windows.

for security purposes. this is used in a few places. If you look at the constructors of this struct (github.com/0xPolygonZer...), 6 out of 7 constructors of this class construct a quadratic extension element with insufficient entropy.
