Poster for the HBO Original A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. A young knight in a brown cloak stands on a grassy hill beneath a large tree, looking down at a bald boy in a matching cloak. A shield with a tree emblem rests nearby, and a medieval camp with tents stretches across the valley below. The sky is pale and calm. Text reads “A New Game of Thrones Tale” and “A Journey Far From the Throne.” The title appears above the release date “Jan 18,” with the HBO Max logo at the bottom.

I just finished listening to Carrie Fisher’s audiobook The Princess Diarist, and wow, what an icon, what a legend ❤️ There are some great OG star wars stories in there. But it’s also a super funny and candid perspective about the craziness of the entertainment industry.
Cover of the book The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, featuring a close-up of Fisher as Princess Leia with a pen tucked into her iconic hairstyle. The text highlights it as a memoir and a New York Times bestseller.

What an intriguing story! And what a cast! 🔥 I used to love the 90s TV series. I wonder how this one will compare! 🤭
Movie poster for The Odyssey featuring Armand Assante as Odysseus in the center, surrounded by other key characters. The poster includes scenes like the Trojan Horse, a multi-headed sea serpent, and a ship on stormy waters. The text highlights it as "A Major Entertainment Event!" with credits at the bottom.

I loved @werner.social's keynote because the topics and takeaways are highly relevant for large companies or those going through hypergrowth, even if they don’t use AWS or the cloud at all. #AWSreInvent
Complexity in large-scale distributed systems

- Speed of innovation: difficulty in rapidly implementing new features or technologies due to the system's complexity.
- Scaling complexity: as systems grow, they become increasingly complex and harder to manage.
- Technical debt: legacy systems and architectures become difficult to update or replace.
- Operational overhead: managing large scale systems requires significant resources and expertise.
- Data consistency: ensuring data consistency across distributed systems, especially in a global setting.
- Performance: maintaining performance as users and data volumes grow.
- Security and compliance: keeping systems secure and compliant with regulations as they expand.
- Cost management: controlling costs as systems scale and become more complex.

Embracing "simplexity"

Plan for evolvability: design systems with adaptability in mind from the beginning.

Simplify: break down complex systems into smaller, manageable components.

Align architecture with organization: ensure the organizational structure mirrors the system's architecture for efficiency.

Cell-based design: use isolated units (cells) within systems to contain and manage issues.

Predictability: build systems that reduce uncertainty by being predictable and reliable.

Automate: automate repetitive tasks and processes to handle complexity effectively.

When it's December and your Spotify Wrapped is not released yet
This meme features three images of a Pedro Pascal, emotionally distressed, leaning against posts. The progression shows him appearing overwhelmed, clutching his chest, and seemingly deep in thought or pain.
