What's your "hope" kit? #writingcommunity Mine's lots of Bach's music and Alysa Liu's olympic performance to Laufey's "Promise". I find "Here I Am" by Jocelyn Hagen healing too, as well as Anthropologists by Ayşgúl Savaş.

I appreciate it but mine was a while ago and not quite the same way, but I do sympathise with that feeling of a "lost day" especially if it's consecutive.

Why does Sept/Oct do this to us? (I feel like these months are always the most unkind to my sinusitis!) Wishing you a speedy recovery, so restful that you'd feel you're ready to take on the world!

But while the various strains of fascists build bunkers for the few, ours are survival networks grounded in the principle that every one of us, without exception, deserves to live and thrive."

"The human networks that neighbors are building, block by block, group chat by group chat, are about more than refusal. In our time of serial shocks and intersecting crises, they are also the basis for a different kind of survivalism."

I see hope in the new art pieces about community and care, I see every-day people creating spaces and events for connection. We're showing up for one another even if it doesn't make it to the news headlines. 1/3 www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Hey friends, my new round of 3-in-90 live, generative workshops begins THIS Saturday (Sept. 26th)! Sign up for one, two, or all three! www.artofflashfiction.com/threein90
Moods, Memories, and Mishaps: Immersive Storytelling to Elevate Your Flash Fiction
Great flash fiction doesn't just tell a quick story. It conveys strong feeling and tone, goes deep with emotional history, and propels the reader irresistibly forward. In this three-part series of 90-minute workshops, we will explore three fundamental forces that will elevate your flash storytelling to the level of rich and resonant, unforgettable art.

These workshops offer a concentrated immersion into the art and craft of flash fiction, encouraging writers to take risks, write from the gut, and generate new work. Though centered on writing, sessions will also include some craft discussion, sharing of published examples, and writing tips.

Expect to generate new material in every session and leave with fresh drafts that surprise you.

This made me smile. Writing process is a strange thing. "I'm not sure what your writing process is like, but for me I find that if I try very hard to write about a particular thing or concept thing, it ends up being about something else." Diana Khoi Nguyen www.epiphanymagazine.org/features/dia...

I think that text is an image. It’s a sign, it’s a symbol. An “A” is an image of an “A,” which represents a sound. In that way, it’s all marks on a page, but the white space is also a mark on the page...

The thingy The thing that makes it puff

Went to a Sara Bareilles concert tonight. Was moved to tears and inspired and loved, and reminded of the power of the art. To see another artist make space for grief and healing like that was so reuniting. (also made me make a big life decision!)

Because what better example of experimentation than her? Is there always plot, no. Is there always scene? NO! Is there a shift? Absolutely. Is it a masterpiece still? Hell yes.

Sometimes I feel like Flash Fiction is seen/misunderstood as a solely plot-driven piece of prose which closes the door to experimentation and blending it with poetry. I wonder sometimes had Lydia Davis been submitting her work today, whether it would have been dismissed by the same expectation.

With how much of our interactions are via messages, sometimes I forget how awkward and clunky in-person interactions can be. They're not edited. There are distractions miscommunication, uncertainty, silences, and missed signals/social cues. May we remember this and be a little kinder to ourselves.
