#sajjas // the adoption of men This documentary touches down on the lives of the sajjas people; where men are nomadic and women reside in settlements. When a boy reaches manhood they're adopted by the next group passing through. (more lore in alt text)

It is the way; as it has been for many centuries.
To end the cycle is to engineer the doom of their existence.

Here, in a cluster of islands, live the yoylokoet sajjas community. There are 27 of these close islands; some holding one or several small villages of the sajjas. Visiting any of them, you may notice something strange: most of these communities have only women as residents. They make the rules, hold council, hunt close, forge the paths and construct buildings--quite <Amazonian> in fact. The only boys here are the children they raise.

One of the boys has finally become a man; yet he waits for a significant change in his life which his mothers cannot guide. But adult men are not outright banished from the matriarchal community--he simply waits to be taken away, nervously waiting.
On this day comes a group of men: a party of ten or so. And they are not empty-handed. Food, materials, and medicine; they stroll through to leave their findings for the women to distribute throughout the village. The men may stay for several nights, but they must keep moving as soon as possible. They have 26 other islands to visit with 16 communities.
The men are nomadic, while the women are settled. They are not the only hunting group; in a few weeks a different party will stroll into town for trade, supplies, or carry news and deliveries over on their next stop. Perhaps by then, another boy would reach manhood and join.

Before they leave, they will adopt the new male adult into their party. He will be shown the ropes on how to provide, as there are 16 new villages he must become familiar with.

The arid planet of Daatuteph is often an unforgiving place; there are countless untamed badlands stretching across the wastes. The Constellation has their hands full, so marauders will resume their vulgar rush. Good people still live in these badlands. With enough defenses simple towns can ward off deadly skirmishes--but the roads often belong to the marauders. Make no assumption, The Constellation works to make its roads much safer each passing day. For your safety, we implore any visit to Daatuteph to take place in our recommended colonies.

Aside from shared technology from outside visitors--locals use wind-carried skiffs to soar over sand, but they can only carry a light load. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call a majority of Daatuteph’s inhabitants as technical scavengers. No one can say how dutephians took hold of heavy automotive systems before the Constellation’s arrival--but daatuteph is also a world rich with heavy, volatile minerals. Perhaps they realized the potential to use explosions to send things far away--so a bunch of tinier, safer explosions can skip you across the land. Still, their vehicles must withstand the harsh dunes and sandstorms as well as require speedy maintenance in dire moments. In a genre, one can define the tech-culture of Daatuteph to be, without surprise, desertpunk. Although in the more-sophisticated parts of the world, dieselpunk can also apply.
