Some tasks I add *after I have done them* just so I can check them off because who doesn't love a little affirmation. Anyway. Training AI to understand a system that works perfectly well for me seems like a pointless waste of time.

Some of my tasks get moved based on changing deadlines, other people's schedules, etc. I know when I put these tasks on my calendar that the date is potentially fake.

My "to do list" isn't built around time because my brain and life don't work that way. I have a list of Google tasks every day that cover both personal and work stuff, and I pick one based on how much time I think it will take, how much I'm dreading it, and when the deadline is.

This was my neighborhood growing up. I had a flat tire once in high school, so my uncle came to help me with it-- but he came straight from work in his cop car and uniform. My mom got multiple calls asking if everything was okay.

A year later, I was teaching in a small Catholic school in Texas. The kids came that day dressed in red, white, and blue, and we formed an American flag (I think. Maybe it was just USA. Maybe it was a heart.) on the field where they had recess.

In those same weeks, a few friends got harrassed for being brown after 9/11. They were Catholic and South Asian. An anti-war protest marched through our campus. Kids yelled at and mocked the protestors. A guy in my history class went on an angry rant about blowing the entire Middle East off the map.

And it was so quiet outside. The weather was perfect-- so many people will mention this that it feels redundant, but it was so strange to be moving through this gorgeous, silent day. A couple of girls decided to sunbathe on their dorm lawn. People talked about this in awe and anger for weeks.

We were in Baltimore, and tons of my fellow students were New Yorkers. So many of them were desperately making or waiting for phone calls. All of their doors on my hall were open, but it was so quiet, just the sound of the news repeating as I went from one room to the next.

Classes were cancelled. The college put TVs out in common areas, but most folks huddled in their dorm rooms. I was an RA, so I got called to an emergency meeting and then spent the next few hours going door to door on my hall, checking on residents.
