Came here to say just this! Surprisingly strong LR+ for egophony (this was a favorite fun fact of my IM preceptor in med school). But given the low LR-, as you said, not so useful in clinical practice (except to get some med students excited about the physical exam).

I've had these sort of close calls before (#pulmlife). If it's at all reassuring, studies suggest you need to spend at least 8hrs in close proximity to a person with active TB to breathe in enough bacilli to be considered a "close contact" at risk of infection. Fingers crossed for you!

It's hard to fathom the suffering that will occur if we further reduce women's access to prenatal and perinatal medical care in these states through steep Medicaid cuts. If we, as a nation, want to increase birth rates, this hardly seems a prudent approach (to put it mildly).

💯. Even my husband, who is a staunch supporter of science but not in the biomedical world himself, came away from reading the NIH announcement asking “but isn’t this good, if more money goes to the research than the admin costs?” This was diabolically crafted to obfuscate the true impact.

Remind them of the jobs and local economies dependent on these endeavors (not just in blue states—red states, too). Academic medical centers do not exist in isolation from their cities.
