i went into this expecting the medical grievance denial rate in federal prisons to be in like the 70–80% range after crunching the numbers, i found that 98% of the 66,000 medical grievances lodged between 2014–2024 were rejected by BOP; less than 1,000 cases were granted relief in 10 years

Muriel Hasbun, a prominent photographic artist and educator in D.C., died of cancer on May 13 in Silver Spring. She was 64. “Muriel leaves behind an enormous art footprint that not only spanned nations, but also delivered a treasure of important and intelligent work.”

I spent several years of my life documenting Austin's response to survivors of sexual assault. In a list of many losses, the creation of Eloise House was a win—designed to put the needs of survivors first. Even from across the country, its closure is a heartbreak and insult I wasn't prepared for.
